Well like Romeo said, farbrorjoakim did a good job of unit preservation even when I was dominating (but starting to lose units in the process), and had a few more of my Stuka strikes landed on the blob, I probably would have won, so correct counter... badly executed.
But yes, it would be nice if the suppression units, particularly the flak truck, could actually halt a blob in its tracks, or require more than 2 bazoka hits, one single inf unit taking it out in a few seconds, while its set up is very confusing. |
Thanks a lot for the in depth analysis Romeo, really appreciate it. I absolutely agree with everything you said and will be working on all those things.
I'm probably a little used to Soviet style play hence spreading too thinly.
I agree the Sturm tiger is easier to use and has netted me better results.
I've never had good success with the flak HT, i think it is too micro heavy for me at least. So easy to lose to even inf. Normally I just go T2-T4, but I've been told you need a puma vs USA. Normally I get a Jagd, rakketen an shrek, which is very good defence around flak HQ.. But flanks get harassed too much by vehicles.
Would it be ok to go T3 just for a puma, then T4 and then back teck for medics?
I have barley used T3 or Luftwafe, I normally use the other tiers and doctrines.
I think the biggest thing for me to learn is to concentrate my forces (and micro), so as to avoid squad losses. I seem to have a detrimental obsession with capping. |
I appreciate the feed back. Unit preservation can be quite hard as OKW, it's something I need to try harder with. But blobs of inf can wipe squads really fast especially if busy else where.
Do people regularly go all tiers vs USA to have a puma, medics and Obers? Normally I go T2-4 which does quite well unless the enemy harasses a lot with medium vehicles.
Yes I was a little frustrated in the game as the title states.. I was struggling for ways to counter the blob.
Yes I got a Stuka, because of the blob. Yes I lost a few (too many units), but I did take out some of his.
I didn't say I outplayed him, clearly he outplayed me after the early game, I just asked for tips and critique. |
Having the Flak HQ with a field gun near by is very very good... but the down side is thats T2+4 and no Pumas... |
Lucky for some who have the doctrine....
Previously I was only using T2-T4... but some people have said to me after games that Pumas are esential Vs USA... but if you go T3, its a major weakness missing out on either obers or medic truck..? |
Attatched is an ok game that I get right pushed back thanks to USA blobs and spam. Really finding it a struggle vs this kind of thing.
Would appreciate any constructive feedback and tips, my opponent said I pkayed badly, desite me having much higher kills.

Relativley good game, but Im struggling against USA blobs. My opponent claimed I played badly, but I had much higher kills.
Any feedback on my play would be appreciated |
It can work 'ok' vs soviet, like you say M3s counter it very hard. Maxims it is going to find limited use trying to push cappers off flanks. Just keep a pio close to it if you find yourself with one Vs maxims, but its probably better to just not build one vs soviet.
Mid- late game, just pull it back and use it far more defensivley, use its vet ability to gain a medium distance map hack! |
Yeah I was about to say arty. Even just standard Soviet Howie will do good damage vs it and force it back from an area.
Only good counter OKW have to a howie, is a stuka, but at 100 fuel on top of a king tiger... and stuka would have to get close to your front lines to fire on the howie where you could probably take it out. |
Your doing something wrong then.
Keep in mind using it in this mode is like a giant AT gun, so it needs a clear line of sight and of course in range, it also uses 180 munis I think, so make sure you have enough munis.
Sometimes it can bug out if something gets in the way of its vision, so make sure WHEN YOU BUILD IT, that it has a good view point of where you expect enemy armour to come from.
Lastly, it turns VERY slowly, so you never want to react with it by turning to face enemy, you want to position it to where they will come from and wait for the right moment. If you do this, it actually fires and hits in under a second.. very fast, you just have to be pre aimed.
The precision strike ability is the best at under 100 muni, but as this requires vet to use, and the standard ability has a LOT of scatter and as only one shell usually fails to hit anything, it takes ages to vet.. for this reason I think the direct fire mode is the best way to vet it up until precision strike.
I prefer to build it before any KV1s, the earlier the better, dont give its existance away until you see that 1st P4 or Stug, which it can NAIL, because they dont know you have it. Hopefully that lands you vet 1, then it can rape!
Its a hit and miss unit/commander (literally!), but fun when it works well! |
