+1 for valid point.
MG and Maxims must work together with infantry.
For example, you see a cons squad charging your mg42 to oohrah lolotov. Obviously, their path is predictable because they charge in straight line. If you have your grens supporting mg, you can shoot a rifle grenade right in their path and kill 3 of 6 models. Start moving your mg. Deploy and suppress while grens keep conscripts busy.
So you spend much more time running away then suppressing. Your not making a better argument it just shows how unreliable the mg42 is. the mg42 is supposed to be a force multiplier if it cannot do that i will simply buy a gren squad over the mg42. |
You also SUPPORT your Grens when your SUPPORT MG42 locks down a sector alone, because it creates space for them / protects their flank / whatever.
and it fails miserably at that |
Both MGs do their job pretty well.
Both have effective counters:
To counter maxim spam: mortars, MHT, scout car, early Ostwind etc.
To counter MG42: flank with several squads, molotovs, vet1 Soviet mortar, Zis barrage, flamer in M3 etc.
MGs have to be supported these days and microed well to have an impact on the battle.
No the maxim surpasses the mg42 in its role a defensive mg and its a hell of a lot better as an offensive mg. for its flexible mobile and can be used on terrain that would be completely unsuited for the mg42.
the mg42 to viable again it needs a massive suppression buff that pins a conscript flat in 2 burst. |
Let's see...
- Conscripts get AT nades.
- Guards Rifles have the PTRS which while not panzershreks, can still damage soviet armor albeit at a slow rate. Also unlocks Button.
- Irregulars have AT grenades.
- Partisans have Shreks if you get them.
Let's compare this to germans:
- Ostruppen and Grens have panzerfausts.
- Panzer grenadiers have Panzershreks.
That's it. Soviets actually have more infantry squads with AT capacity than the soviets.
So, essentially what players that complain Soviet have no AT options are crying about is them not having access to Panzershreks, which are basically useless currently due to the speed at which panzergrenadiers now die due to their lack of armor.
Dont forget satchel charges. |
Both sides have counters to the other sides mg but at the same they have very few counters to their own mg. When im playing as a german i can only drool at the prospect of getting my hands on a maxim as most soviet mg42 counters simply do not work against a maxim, Had a hilarious game once where a soviet player complained that the mg42 was op while he was fighting a maxim i captured from him the whole time.
But currently its simply not viable to use the mg42. the soviets can so easily push the mg42 of the field its not worth getting it.
The Maxim has less problems with that and still can make an impact.
The maxim is fine the mg42 simply suppresses to slowly. |

You´re right. Without an Elefant you will have a really tough time vs ISU. The problem is that you cannot exploit the weakness of the Elefant (= infantry) because there is no Soviet infantry with strong enough AT capabilities to take it out. The Elefant lets you dominate all armor, thus your Ostwind or whatever can kill all inf without worrying about tanks.
Once again it depends on the map and crossing in the woods is the best map for the elefant and the isu-152. |

The assault on Caucasus itself was also a horrible mistake. Had hitler not split up his forces he probaly could of taken Stalingrad.
Once again Stalingrad's worth to the soviets depended on if they maintained control of the Caucasus . |

The fighting spirit of the NSDAP you mean...?
You obviously don't know the German people or their Prussian values. |

Stalingrad was an incredibly important city for the soviets.
If germans took stalingrad, the oil reserves in Caucasus would be lost.
No oil= no fuel = no tanks = LOSE.
Order 227 simply wasn't just because LOL lets kill traitors.
Soviets simply could not lose stalingrad.
If they lost it, it would mean goodbye for the Soviet Union . Stalin understood that. Hence order 227.
You mean the Volga river. When the Germans where in the city Stalingrad had very little economic worth to the Germans or soviets. While Stalingrad was a very good position to cut the volga of it could be done at any point of the river.
Also while the 6th army was in Stalingrad the germans assaulted the Caucasus. Operation Uranus was their to destroy the 6th army that guarded the flank of the Caucasus offensive but the city itself was worthless. |

Alright back to the isu-152 its to cost effective for what is doing right now and need a price increase. But their are only a few maps where this unit really shines. and if the isu-152 shines on that map then so does the elefant. basically jeager armor is the 'i win button' vs the isu-152 doctrines.
So do not select your doctrine if you see 1: the soviets having this doctrine 2: this map is large and open 3: you are sure he picked the doctrine as most soviet player do not use the isu-152 if you have the panzer jeager commander. |
