late 1944 themed COH2, /quote]
(Just don't mention that the Soviets are playing in late 1943... None of their non-doctrinal equipment was developed later than autumn 1943...)

The problem with the North Africa suggestion (which would be awesome and I'd totally get behind it) is that you don't have anything to face OKW late game armour as the brits. Imagine your top tier tank being a Matilda (with a glorious 2 pndr gun) having to fight versus KTs... |
So,
The new year has been and gone.
Ardennes Assault is well and truly out the door.
And CoH2 has racked up another exciting set of hideous balances.
So now it's time start speculating about what balance beasties will be introduced to run the game ragged next, will be introduced next into the game.
My guess -
Italy
Brits vs Germans
Half fascist Italian/Half German force
Weak early game infantry, strong late game fallschirmjagers (think Cassino)
OP armour (because that's what always happens with the Axis) Panzer IIIs with rapid firing 7.5cm shortbarrels, lots of armour. Non-doctrinal Elefants...
Semovente 105s (similar to the StuH
Brits
Indian and Gurkha troops, generally rubbish (as usual with allied troops, whatever the reality)
Strong non-doctrinal artillery
Awesomely powerful Sherman Firefly (or if they really want to mix things up, a Challenger)
As well as the Bren gun carrier to hard counter the Kubelwagen so all allied players have to buy it.

I'd rather see more often the legendary Hetzer then the JP4 though, probably next army expansion along with a proper designed soviet
Haha, like that'll ever happen. (The new Soviets I mean) |
i'm not sure how effective it still is but for quite a while you could counter the OKH mortar with it and sometimes get wipes. it's really not a bad ability, it just cost 60mun per use instead of 240mp plus upkeep for a mortar team.
"just" 60 munis?
Blimey, has getting banned from the Relic forums meant everygame I receive half munis? |
Hetzer would be a good alternative to the StuG, but given it's functionally similar to the JP4, what's the point? |
@Babaroga,
sure, you're right about expectations, but I'd expect more for 60 munis. I don't think forcing a unit to move or killing a few guys is good enough for 60 munis. |
Results may vary it seems, I'll still hold to my statement that everytime I've seen it used, either by me, by someone else or on me, the results have been pitiful. |
Absolutely agreed. |
It might be identical to the mortar barrage, but it still costs 60, you're basically throwing away an MG-42 (or a flamethrower) everytime you fire it for something of questionable accuracy which is easy to walk away from and hasn't got the greatest range.
Something I would be interested in is it being a one time upgrade in the Support Weapon Kompanieya building for like 120 munis or something which gives your field guns unlimited free barrages, but with a hefty cooldown (SU-76M cooldown length). This would make more sense, make it more useful, be way more historically accurate and actually make the idea of Soviet AT guns being gimped because of the barrage actually make sense (rather than currently where it's utter crap but a card for the German fanboys to make sure their precious AT advantages remain the same...) |
