The entire Soviet tier structure is frustrating to play compared to playing as the Ostheer.
You need to choose at the start of the game which path you want to go down, and if you made the wrong choice then you have locked yourself out of having more effective fighting options.
It's difficult to make an effective combined arms army when half your unit choices are unavailable based on your choice of starting structure.
And having less options is also simply less fun. |
I find the main issue with Panthers is that you can plink away its health until it is near death, but then it pops smoke and/or warp-speeds away before you can actually finish it off. And then it comes back later with even more Vet, becoming harder and harder to kill.
Nullist's suggestion for slowing the Panthers blitzkrieg speed when suffering from a damaged engine would help alleviate this problem. Blitzkrieg should still give the attack speed buff as normal, of course.
The other issue, with all tanks, it that there isn't any 'real' side armour in this game, which makes flanking attempts to be very hit and miss. |
Rostov is 3v3 and 4v4.
Just played it btw: german side had 4 elephants at the same time...I didn't have time to count the number of Panthers also plowing the map.
Awfull...
It's an awful map. If you start north side as Soviets, you might as well just /leave and save yourself the trouble. |
Really, cause I did that and it took 2 to get it down to low damage and broken engine?
From the COH2 stats site,
B-4 203mm = 640 dmg x 1.5 @ vet2 x 1.34 @ Vet3 = 1286 dmg
Elefant Hp = 1280
So it works mathematically. And it happened in game, to the surprise of both sides lol. |
I just had a Vet 3 B-4 howitzer one-shot a brand new Elefant with using its normal, non-precision barrage.
Glorious. |
It really is only good once it gets precison shot. And its funny when it evaporates blobs of infantry |
It's a map from the Co-Op mission, I have no problem with it being added since it was there already anyway, whats the gain with it being a ToW only map? And what is the loss with it being a available to also play in skirmish mode?
You don't have to play it and people that like playing against the AI (and that are a lot of people) have the choice to play this map, which is actually pretty fun. I'm personally hoping that all the ToW Co-Op maps will be released eventually. They are in the game files, it doesn't take up developing time since they are already completed, so whats the harm? A freebie.
The problem is that it will show up during auto-matched games, where one side will have a significant advantage over the other. |
It does seem like there might be a bug with it's range. During construction, the yellow range circle seems to cover 90% of even the largest maps. After being built however, it's effective range is considerably less. |
It's a decent and has pretty much the same drawbacks as any fixed emplacement. It will still die easily to any off-map artillery call-ins.
If built to take advantage of the (expensive) direct fire ability, then it is also likely in an even more vulnerable location. I see it really only being effective in choke-point maps like Pripyat and Rhzev
You really need to pre-aim the B-4 203 ahead of time, otherwise it is far to slow to actually hit anything.
Also, if you see a recon plane flying overhead, move your units around. Treat it kinda like a stuka dive bomber. |
After a few more games on this map, I think I will just keep it on my veto list. It's nice to have new maps, especially for 3v3/4v4 matches, but this map just too lope-sided. |
