Thread: New Commanders / Units discussion 24 Sep 2013, 18:07 PM LoL is the epitome of "optional content" unless things have changed recently. Selling heroes with unique skills that behave in unique ways not to mention tune pages full of runes you have to purchase (that change the way your characters play)... How is that not just what CoH2 is doing, if not more extreme? Dota 2 is AFAIK the only game that manages to make money purely from tournament passes and cosmetic items alone. League is certainly not like that. In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: New Commanders / Units discussion 24 Sep 2013, 17:26 PM Why are people willing to pay $25 to $40 or whatever for new factions, maps, and single player content (expansions are essentially bundled DLC after all IMHO) but unwilling to pay $2 for the option to make tradeoffs in how your faction plays (Commanders). You have to admit this is no more pay to win than the expansions to CoH 1 were. This sums up my feelings about the DLC. It's no more or less "pay to win" than buying expansions in Relic's other games. All Commanders are tradeoffs, and I'm quite happy they're beginning to diversify them. If you truly believe Relic is going to continually release more powerful Commanders ad infinitum, I'm not sure what to say... EDIT: I own the DCE and am happy to have gotten all the CoH1 games for free, as well as all existing Commanders and skins. It's a teensy bit disappointing to not get the new Commanders included, but if they seem fun to play I'll pick em up. I want to see CoH2 evolve and grow over time. In: COH2 Gameplay

To me, Commanders kind of feel like different factions from any Relic RTS - you can just own WH40k DoW and still play people who owned all expos. Was that p2w because some people paid to get access to Dark Eldar or Neurons and some didn't? Also as no one has had a chance to play with the new Commanders I think it might be a smidge to early for in depth analysis of which of them are OP... In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: MG42 Post Patch13 Sep 2013, 19:01 PM Did he have the Molotov range bulletin? That could be a factor. I take it specifically for scenarios like the one you describe. Also, AFAIK MG42s can shoot farther than they can see which may have been a factor. In: COH2 Balance

Thread: My thoughts about RNG and "cinematic gameplay" in COH213 Sep 2013, 16:01 PM So, I hate to shill for stuff I wrote, but I put a bit of time into both of these pieces and wanted to share them with the COH2.org community. In the interests of not being too obnoxious, I've decided to dump them into the Scrap Yard instead of COH 2 Central, to keep them out of the main discussions of COH2. Anyways, I never really played the original vCOH or its expansions, though I did love Dawn of War and Dawn of War 2. I currently own all of the COH games and may take a pass through the original, though it's really multiplayer that interests me in the game. While I don't have a ton of time to play COH2 (not nearly as much as I want, at any rate) I find it fascinating to watch and wrap my head around. To that end, I've written 2 articles about the controversial RNG topic, drawing both from my own observations and from my perusal of discussions both here and on the COH2 subreddit. The official Company of Heroes Facebook account was kind enough to post one of them to their feed, which was an honor to be sure. If you're just going to read one of them, I think the second one is more comprehensive BTW.
