I've actually been thinking of it myself (I'm a programmer myself) and what cuddletronic said makes sense. I've worked with Unity (a game engine) a fair bit, and I don't get how a GAME ENGINE will prevent you from simply applying stats to respawned units. But the question is, why did Kyle post it then? I mean, he's not a developer, so someone must have told him to.
