It can go toe to toe with a Panther or Tiger and sometimes come out on top, but with much more powerful anti infantry capabilities than either of those. It also dominates all German medium armor. Hm, I may have been unclear in my initial post. Basically, from my experience, the IS-2 is really, really good against infantry while only decent (for its cost) against enemy tanks, which is why I tend to view it as being primarily an AI tank. It just lacks the penetration/rate of fire to be truly effective against anything heavier than a Pz4. I was just trying to point out/inform the OP that he shouldn't really expect an IS-2 to dominate a Panther, since Panthers are supposed to be tank killers. Sure the IS-2 has a decent chance to beat a lone Panther simply because the IS-2 is so much heavier/more expensive, but more than one Panther or a supported Panther is probably a losing battle for the IS-2. It does not have good penetration for its cost, and the slow rate of fire further hinders it against other tanks. If you're trying to use your IS-2 as a hard-counter to Panthers, you should rethink your approach because Panthers are made to kill other tanks. You wouldn't expect a Brummbar (AI tank) to beat an Su-85 (AT tank) despite the Brummbar costing more. The cost of the tank does not necessarily correlate to how good it is against other tanks, you really have to look at that tank's role. Panther = AT tank, so don't try and fight it with other tanks, except for SU-85s because SU-85s beat everything except Elefants. IS-2 = AI tank, use it to fight off infantry and AT guns, not other tanks. In: COH2 Balance

Usually, I'd prefer to make a few Paks instead. PaKs are also more vulnerable to snipers/mortars (especially vet 1) have significantly lower mobility and are essentially useless against infantry. Sure Stugs aren't great against infantry, but they're still okay. I've always found Stugs to be a great choice against Soviet T3. They kill tanks way better than P4s do, which is fine, because that's what they're supposed to do. Sure you can't get them every game, and you probably shouldn't get one until you've seen a T70/T34. Perhaps they could use some minor buffs (although I think they're fine where they are) but calling them terrible I think is a bit of a stretch Also PaKs require going tier 2, something I've been skipping more often these days with the popularity of Shocks and Guard/Snipers. Thread: Replays Thread20 Jan 2014, 16:20 PM Alright Gabmit, watched the replay and have some ideas that might help you out. 1 - You kind of played into the hands of the partisans, especially with that house near your base. You could have used some idle mortar/PaK gun time to kill it, or you could have put a set of pios in there to prevent partisans from constantly forcing your weapon crews off the map. 2 - You put your HT in a really bad spot considering you knew he had partisans, which caused it to die. 3 - Minesweepers, they're always worth the munition investment and even more so after you've hit a couple of mines (plus partisans can plant mines) I think a sweeper could have paid off big time. 4 - Overall squad preservation was pretty poor. Perhaps just you being rusty or being distracted or whatnot but losing some early squads really set you behind. 5 - Having seen the T34s I probably would have gotten a Stug earlier, but it can be risky vs AT partisans so perhaps more P4s was the right choice, hard to say. Also Stugs aren't amazing on that map, but I'm particularly fond of them against Soviet T3. 6 - There were a few times where you floated a bit too much. Your first P4 could have come out sooner and after putting up T2 and losing a bunch of units, it took you a while to replace them. On positive notes - you definitely out-micro'd his tanks which really helped you come back. Some sweet PGren flanks to decrew weapon teams. The initial push for his cutoff was solid, but you just put the HT in a poor spot. From what I saw the two biggest things that hurt you were not playing around the partisans by killing that house or garrisoning that house and losing a lot of squads. GG WP nice win. From personal experience and from unit stats. As I said before the stug is better AT than a p4 in every regard, and it out ranges t34s, if your stugs aren't beating t34s, you're doing it wrong. :/ In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Is the STUG truly useless??19 Jan 2014, 18:50 PM Stug is significantly better AT than a P4. It has longer range, higher RoF, higher penetration and does the same damage. Basically any game that I see a T-70 or T-34 I'll grab a Stug as my first tank because they completely hard-counter the hell out of T-34s. They're also my go-to counter for T34-85s because of their range/rof they really hold up a lot better against them than P4s and it can be difficult to get Panthers out before the T34/85s with how soon they come in this patch. You can't and shouldn't blindly make a Stug as your first tank like you could a P4, since P4s are okay-ish against everything and can be good at putting pressure on your opponent, but if they've revealed T3 you should definitely invest in one. Also as the game progresses P4 + Stug can probably kill 3-4 T34s by themselves as long as you micro properly. Stugs are extremely good at what they do, but they're basically a more durable AT gun - on tracks, so you can't really expect them to tear up infantry. In: COH2 Balance

Thread: Fight Night/King of the Hill 1 vs 1 Event16 Jan 2014, 15:11 PM Hey guys this is going to be super short notice, so hopefully it ends up working out but an idea popped into my head to give DrunkinGambit's map the thorough play-testing/attention that it deserves. But without further ado - my idea: When: This coming Saturday, Jan 18th 6:00 PM EST (11:00 PM/23:00 GMT) Format: 1 vs 1, King of the Hill. The first two players will be randomly selected from the pool of players participating, and from there the winner keeps playing. Map: Keine Ruckkehr http://www.coh2.org/topic/12799/2-keine-ruckkehr http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=214309062 Special Rules: * Only commanders allowed in SNF should be used (basically no Elite Troops, Industry, Luftwaffe, or DHsK guy) *Each "king" must step down after three consecutive wins. The goal is to create a fun environment and play-test Gambit's map, the more people that get to play the better. I don't want people to be worried about one person hogging the spotlight or some one significantly better than everyone else getting to play forever. After three consecutive wins two people will be randomly chosen to decide who the new king is. Casting: I would really like to have replays of the games livestreamed and cast while other games are being played. For example after game 1 is played the replay will be sent to anyone who will cast the game. This way while game 2 is underway, we can stream game 1 so that anyone not playing will be able to watch the stream, if they so choose, and hopefully this will give Gambit's map a bit more community exposure - with people being able to watch the map in action. Currently I plan to cast games with Con, on his stream but I'm more than willing to let other people step up if they want to try and cast. Please let me know if you'd like to cast games, and/or if you can stream with relatively good quality. If you want to play in the event please leave your Steam Name/Steam ID Number either in this thread or send me that information via Steam. Also, if anyone has suggestions on special rules or things that could make the event cooler/run better please let me know.
