Thread: COH3 Retreat Paths, Solved21 Sep 2021, 17:27 PM
Interesting points but I am in disagreement with point number 1 for a number of reasons: The whole concept of retreating & "danger" in doing so lies in the fact that it is a mechanic outside of the player's control, just like is the case with RNG rolls an a comparison. If one were to outright explicitly illustrate this on a map (whichever way you want to do so visually such as a line or a silhouette) for the player then you are directly giving people the ability to manipulate this. I understand the desire for more clarity over where one's units will retreat but this should probably be a calculate risk in the same fashion that you have no idea whether a shot will penetrate or bounce outside of an educated guess. Fundamentally, you also create a vast number of UI issues that require designing & implementing to visually represent this. Moreover, giving ANYONE the ability to dictate retreat paths (such as the designers) by allowing "preferred" paths in my opinion is also doing the opposite of giving more control to the player. I honestly think the way to alleviate the current frustration with retreat paths (I'd argue that PATHING is MUCH MORE of an issue in general than the RETREAT PATHS albeit they share the same algorithm) is to design maps in a way that unexpected obstacles (for pathing) aren't present. In this case, retreat indicators in the world builder will be perfectly sufficient for enabling designers to see how the overall flow of the map changes once objects are placed. From this, there would also be the possibility of simulating general pathing since it uses the exact same premise. In: COH3 Central |
Thread: CoH3 multiplayer alpha soon 16 Sep 2021, 19:59 PM
1-2 hours seems impossible. I highly doubt the algorithm will "hold off" on finding a match (irrespective of game mode) even if you are searching during the depth of the night. I search at both prime & dead NA hours (multiple factors worse for mismatching than EU) and whilst I still get put with people that are hundreds to thousands of ranks out of mine, I have never waited more than lets say 15-20 minutes. It's still pretty horrific mind you. EDIT: Rosbone has legit concerns. He might not take the most diplomatic approach to getting his points across (lol) but it is in all of our interests that the matchmaking system is better than what COH2 currently offers. Defending it in its current state and accepting the status quo is effectively the same as saying "I don't care if I have to play against people that are hundreds to thousands of ranks better/worse than me" - you do you if you think that creates fun games. Back to the topic: Exciting times ahead for the COH3 multiplayer. I hope they have fleshed out some of these UI & bug issues that were plaguing the SP pre-alpha. Even if the balance is completely bonkers (I hope not too badly), it should make for some interesting first in-depth looks at how the game interacts in a PvP environment. In: COH3 Central |

Thread: Do RTX GPUs Run Smoothly Playing CoH2?6 Mar 2021, 03:34 AM
Problem seems to have disappeared with the 457.30 driver that Tobis suggested. At 3 hours with no problems or hitches now. Link below: https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/drivers/results/166764/ I guess we'll need to wait for Nvidia to release some more stable drivers. This should PROBABLY be stickied somewhere for all future & current RTX owners. EDIT: 4.5 hours in now, still no problems. I think it's fair to chalk it up to driver issues. In: Lobby |
Thread: Do RTX GPUs Run Smoothly Playing CoH2?3 Mar 2021, 18:56 PM
Interesting, I had not tried that old of a driver since I am playing other recent games as well (seems ridiculous you have to do it if this is truly the case - welcome to drivers). The version I tried was the Cyperpunk optimised ones like you mentioned. Again, it's just COH2 which baffles the mind. You'd think I'd have other stuttering issues with other games somewhere but nope, not a flinch. I might try downgrading to 457.30 to see if this does anything for me and can report back but I am pretty burnt out after exhausting hours on this nonsense with COH2 In: Lobby |
Thread: Do RTX GPUs Run Smoothly Playing CoH2?3 Mar 2021, 18:35 PM
My issues were always with OBS & while streaming. I have not tested without so take that with a pinch of salt. I run a 5600x & a 3080 and have 0 problems with anything else (COH2 is the only game that is unplayable for me). I have tried different drivers (older/newer), different global/application settings including V-Sync, AA, High/low, you name it. I've tried Game mode, GPU Hardware accelerated scheduling, Admin/Non-admin priviledges, different encoders (both x264 & NVENC at different presets). Nothing has worked so far so I am inclined to believe its an issue somewhere on the software side between COH2 & OBS. Hilariously enough, my 980 Ti could run the game just fine with my 5820k on the NVENC encoder with none of these issues. My very recent and last attempt at fixing my "stuttering" (note that it's stuttering and not straight up FPS drops) allowed me to play for about 2 hours before essentially becoming unplayable again to the point of no return (I need a full stream restart to reset this after) as if it feels like something is holding all your performance back. Think of a more extreme version of the memory leak with stuttering, sluggishness & general crap performance. It MIGHT just be my GPU but I don't think it is since this is literally the only game that gives me any sort of issue. I am sure the game will run completely fine without OBS but if you're thinking of streaming and getting into the 3x series, perhaps wait it out a bit to see if there are any drivers that might fix the issue whilst stock recovers (optimistic). I hope that helps you out (lol). I am open to any other suggestions if any of you folks have any additional ideas but I've pretty much exhausted all of my software configurations on my side short of finding a new 3080 to test with (completely impractical).
