New unit:
Airborne artillery (M116 75mm air-portable howitzer or M3 105mm)
Airborne company choice has no artillery (except the overly expensive and underwhelming bomb run) but two types of air-portable howitzers were used in numbers. 5,000 m116 75mm howitzers and 2500 m3 105mm howitzers. The 105s did not have the same range as the m2 105mm field gun, but they were still artillery. |
Yes, you are right, very sorry for the spoiler. But it really wasn't a spoiler. It is usually quite obvious from the names from who the submission was received. (This is not as obvious when both teams are well known pros.)
A hint to Pounder on how to change it up... if Axis is blue when Duclair starts, particularly if the recognized names are the players, it is obvious to me how the match played out.
Very few players have the humility of posting tight though dramatic losses. Or perhaps, being on the losing side, they don't have the objectivity to recognize how epic the game had been.
Added: I think it is also more interesting when allies win a nailbiter because there are different ways they end up winning, while Axis usually involves overwhelming allies with super infantry and supertanks. |
Good replays are very hard to find. We did find that one entertaining but not the best. We work with what we have to sometime. There are not a lot of Vcoh game replays being posted. Pros who play vcoh still seem to have no interest in having their games casted. Its annoying.
That is too bad because I have watched some truly amazing games being streamed. Sometimes viewers will ask the streamer to post the replay and it is too bad they don't. There have been some real tight ones. Too often the "win" is ruined by someone drophacking, but by that time it is won. |
RnP number 62 brings us another great vcoh 2v2 with a special guest cohost BAWX!
Love your guys casts and I learned so much about the game from them... but...didn't watch it for long.
I started watching the cast, I really did, then realized it was axis in blue (legioroma) on Duclair and was able to skip to the end to see that it ends with a Axis winning in the end with vetted everything. Booooring!
Sorry, it just isn't a nailbiter to see a cast even where Wehr comes back from a big deficit unless they were so low on points they could lose it at any time. It is more fascinating to see how an allied player can come from behind and beat vet3 Wehr and a field full of PE panthers. But I am not sure more than a handful, if that many, of such games exist.
If something particularly entertaining happened in that game, cast the 1-5 minutes and save yourselves the time. But I saved an hour of my life by not watching the very very predictable. |
And buff the Airborne Bombing run. For 250 muni it is slow, warns the enemy it is coming, and does F--k all to anything that isn't exactly hit by the bomb. And yet it is the only artillery available to an AB player. |
Here is another BIG idea for a change in CoH. Add supplies (fuel, ammo, grenades) to a units loadout. Total War has been limiting the amount of ammunition/arrows/sling shot/etc. each unit has since before 2000.
This will create a new dynamic. You can return to a resupply point, or have jeeps/trucks ferry supply to troops in the field. Perhaps have resupply cost munitions; small amounts for small arms fire, more for grenades/mortars/rockets and quite a bit for tank/artillery ammo. Throw in fuel trucks too.
Perhaps reduce reload times on grenades since they are not unlimited now. MG42 usage would have an ammo cost that has to be considered. |
I think the game is very well balanced 1v1 and there have been a number of good ideas so far.
One big change to think about is Wehr vet. Yes, go ahead and keep it "bought" but be able to buy it only unit by unit so the allies are rewarded for killing a vetted squad just as Axis are rewarded (by removing the squad for which you have to rebuild or re-buy new vet). With bought vet Wehr can spam all sorts of super units. Even Volks, pio, and StuGs are pretty OP if they are vet3.
This would fix multi-player. Now Allies have to be winning by mid-game or even ealier. Otherwise you have vetted infantry and armor spammed all over the place. The reason you see so many 57mm is because it is the only reliable counter to spammed vetted armor.
You can kill sniper spam by limiting the number of snipers. While I think sniper-spam is a valid tactic, it just isn't any fun. And while no one talks about it, moving 5 snipers around as a group is blobbing and no one has ever wanted blobbing to be rewarded. |
There are already leaderboards for vCoH, it wouldn't make much sense for Relic to invest time into redoing what they've already done. And drophacking in vCoH is essentially a non-issue these days since legitimate players' trust ratings are so high. I can't remember the last time I got a loss from a drophack in vCoH.
Inverse, I think things have changed and you haven't realized it.
It doesn't seem they record disputes anymore. And every time someone DH's both players get a win. That is why there are guys on there with multiple hundred game win streaks. And they level up because wins, even against lowly players, count some, but they don't take a loss. |
Ah. Ok, then my OP wasn't clear. I was speaking about RELIC creating a limited leaderboard for CoH1 using the code they currently have for CoH2. Whether it gets posted here or not wasn't the question.
That, and some code to recognize a drop hack (has to be possible in at least some situations to recognize it automatically) would help revitalize CoH1. and considering there isn't a lot being invested in CoH1, any sales of it, and there still are some, would be gravy. |
Also, is there someone at Relic or Valve to who we can report particularly abusive players? I watched MWDutchx play several games in a row with ArmorCompany. They kept getting matched up because of their lofty positions on the leaderboard.
But ArmorCompany didn't play. Literally didn't cap anything. Would always drophack before losing. And in in-game conversations told MWD wo go with it, that they would both level up because of it. MWD was so frustrated because it was IMPOSSIBLE for him to play. So long as ArmorCompany was automatching Wehr to his US the only games he got on Automatch were against AC.
Sorry if this is off topic. |
