Thread: Soviets OP21 Jul 2015, 19:36 PM Rushing a tier or unit usually implies skipping or delaying something. What are Soviets exchanging to rush for T3? Nothing different than before: having both T1 and T2. Which I don't think many Soviet players went for. The real change is that the t34/76 is in T4. But this is based around the metagame, not the strategic choices (rushing a tier or unit) available to Soviets, since Soviet t1 and t2 didn't change. The choice between T3 and T4 is still real, but it no longer leaves the Soviets with a strategic hole in their army for Axis to counter/capitalize upon. However, despite this, this is a very necessary and beneficial change to the game. It is a long time coming that the Soviets tech without crippling themselves. The problem is that Ostheer t3 is really powerful, and moving it around heavily impacts the faction's performance. There is no true light tank or vehicle for Ostheer, (maybe the HT, but the 222 is nothing more than a SC with a gun that can penetrate M5 armor. Changes to improve light tank and vehicle play was by default not going to help Ostheer much. I wonder how it would go for Ostheer if the T3 was cheaper, but the P4 couldn't be built out of it until T4 phase was researched. It'd delay the all-rounder tank, but allow for StuGs to be out earlier to handle the lighter vehicles. T70s/SU/76s v StuGs is still one of the more interesting matchups IMO. In: COH2 Balance

Thread: Graphics options resetting20 Jul 2015, 22:36 PM That could definitely be a culprit as the difference between fullscreen and windowed mode can change what settings are actually utilized. I was going to ask though, if you experience bugsplats or crashes that often? I know that when CoH2 crashes and settings I've changed usually aren't retained. Since I often find CoH2 to crash when I exit out, it may just not be keeping the changes. In: COH2 Bugs

Thread: About the next patch. T70s are coming! 18 Jul 2015, 20:03 PM Rushing for Panthers in vCoH was a poor strategy as well. (But mostly due to Wehrmacht vet mechanics.) The role the Panther played in vCoH is similar to the role it plays in CoH2: countering enemy (heavy) armor. Unlike the vCoH Americans that always had the Pershing in its back pocket, the Soviets can easily end up not having an IS2 option, and USF doesn't have any kind of heavy tank. Unless the Soviets have IS2s, there's little incentive to build Panthers. There's often not even a threat of the kinds of tanks Panthers excel at fighting, cost-wise. That leaves the Brummbar and the panzerwerfer. And the Brummbar really has no business being built outside of shenanigans. (Sim city, lazy blobs, trolling.) The panzerwerfer is the only unit in Ostheer t4 that brings something effectively new to their arsenal. But the panzerwerfer, as we all know, struggles to knock a stationary shock troop squad down to 5 members. Ostheer T4 is a counterplay tier. At least as long as the panzerwerfer remains the way it is. In: COH2 Balance

Yes, that is also a cost, but if a panther is needed it is a huge boon to be able to convert resource income into what you need. Do people forget that they can convert income? Thread: Update on beta patch by Jason Lee17 Jul 2015, 19:05 PM I'm very glad that SU-76s have finally gotten attention and are paired with T70s. It's how I thought it should've been since closed beta. Now if only the StuG were more accessible. I'm glad it's back to being able to hurt vehicles, although when it is only available alongside the Panzer 4 there's not going to be a whole lot of T70/SU-76 versus StuG battles, which I have always felt was the most interesting matchup for Ostheer v Soviet. (Aside from t34/85 v panthers, but that's a doctrine only matchup unfortunately.) I always felt the pacing for lighter vehicles towards heavier tanks should've been SU-76/T70 v StuG, followed by t34/76s, followed by Panzer 4s to counter, and then followed up with final tiers of non doctrinal t34/85s v panthers. But then WFA happened and threw most chances for balance out the window. I am definitely looking forward to how this next patch works. I've got high hopes for it, although I'm a bit worried that Ostheer is going to be pigeonholed into just throwing down MG42s on their fuel and camping til the mid game. In: Lobby

Thread: About the next patch. T70s are coming! 15 Jul 2015, 18:15 PM The only thing about the HMG42's AP rounds is that it forces a full reload animation before initiating. Since HMG42s take a ridiculously long time to reload, it is more than enough time for an M5 to mosey on out or through the firing arc. HMG42's vet 1 ability is most effective when you're able to pre-emptively activate the ability before an assault is launched. This can be a considerable challenge that only gets harder with competent players. In: COH2 Balance
