I'm convinced that every balance issue ever brought up, concentration of forces, defence, resources, heavy tanks call ins et all are all symptoms of horrendous map design which betrays the fundamental philosophy of the game and does no favours to the factions seemingly arbitrarily plopped down on these heaps and forced to grind up against each other. And my god do I agree with alexzandvar do they ever look horrid...
Not every map is horrendous and some issues exist on all maps such as the call-in spam which is from bad commander design and has nothing to do with maps whatsoever. |
A long long time ago (like before Tiger Ace was a thing) Eagleheart came on vent with Whiteflash Sib Budwise and myself and asked us what map changes we thought were really important and he addressed our problems as best he could in the next patch. Matt was able to make the changes we wanted in like a week, so if there hasn't been any map tweaking lately, that leads me to believe Relic has him working on other things like maps for another expansion, more free maps for the next patch, or hell maybe even DoW3 maps for all I know. |

Its an extremely complex game of rock paper scissors. Infantry hold towns and forests, tanks win open field battles, helis kill clustered inf and vehicles, some helis kill other helis, there tons of plane variants that can be good against infantry or vehicles or other planes. AA rapes stuff in air but super vulnerable to offensive vehicles and there are planes that actually specialize in killing AA with missiles that basically auto seek AA from their radar. You can have a superior force but if you position yourself badly you can get fucked by artillery, bombs, or units ambusing from tree lines. Its a really good game, 8/10. |
I'm not a huge basketball fan but a friend talked me in to getting this game and it is amazing. Lots of variety in the commentary. Lots of game modes. I haven't played the GM mode but everything else is well designed and not some shitty hastily thrown together after thought. Gameplay is really good with lots of play calling and coaching options and thousands of dribble move combinations. Presentation is really good, feels like watching a game on TV, in fact even better since the graphics are incredible and it runs at 1080p 60fps. Create-a-player (my career) mode is really good. You are a undrafted free agent that has to tryout for teams for a chance at a 10 day contract and if you play well in those games you get a contract for remainder of season with that team. You can customize player with shooting dribble and layup animations from actual NBA players and there is a good skill progression system. You use this player for my park online mode which has an arcade feel yet very competitive. All the players have their signature shots and dribble moves. There is a weekly 2KTV episode hosted by this really hot chick with interviews from players and coaches where they show you how to improve your basketball skills in real life and in game.
I have had 3 baseball games, 5 PGA games, 3 hockey games, 6 or 7 football games, 2 other basketball games, several racing games, and I can easily say this is the most well made sports video game I've played. If you like basketball this a must own, and even if you don't you will probably still enjoy it. |
I think the Valve ones stay and the non-Valve ones disappear, but I'm not sure. I know if you never install Dota 2 or TF2 they never get added to your library, but I don't know what happens when you uninstall them.

But yeah, you had more strategic flexibility in CoH1.

some would argue that it took 8 or 9 years to get the vcoh factions to the way they are...

lol apparently if a squad gets 1 shotted your blobbing. Therefore stukas are fine, b4 vet 3 is fine, every off map is fine. Because if you have problems with any sort of indirect fire pls L2P cuz you're blobbing. HUUUUURRRRRR. Sorry that I'm contesting your point that players should be able to turtle up around points and let point and click emplacements sitting in your base do all the work. God knows we need that instead of ooohhh idk combined armed forces involving micro to attack or defend. Nope lets just rush middle vp and sit there wip machine guns and AT guns while you blow the absolute shit out of bases and tanks with the click of a button because its much easier.
The best thing about artillery is not only can you effortlessly 1 shot squads from across the map with no notice, but even with the continual damage it forces your opponent to make risky all or nothing attacks to destroyyour artillery or main force, putting you in the position to just destroy them because their risk is your advantage. Even if they don't make ballsy all or nothing attacks, you still win due to the continual damage and bleed, and for little micro or skill. Artillery is scrubs wet dream.
Artillery is cancer. Howitzers are great because they never get built. The only things balanced are rocket artillery. With Stuka being slightly OP, katyushas being squad wiping maniacs and panzerwerfers being shit. If they could blanket nerf all these units the game would be even better.
Did I say all the artillery pieces are fine? No. B4 needs some changes especially against super heavy tanks. But artillery as a concept is fine and some of them even underperforming. Some units are easier to use than others, deal with it. Shrek blob is much easier way to do antitank than microing several tanks or AT guns but that doesn't mean handheld AT should be removed from the game.

Artillery = effortless 1 shotting of entire squads and base bombing . NEITHER of which is any fun at all. The only people who would be interested in artillery are comp stompers or people who want to just turtle up and shoot sheels across the map at the enemy. No go play another game if this is what you do.
Well its part of this game and its a part of CoH1 which was an even better game, so if you don't like it find a new franchise. Also if it is one shotting squads (plural) stop blobbing so damn much. |
