not with 320 armor and the fall of is not dat high
this is still theory crafting unless you've actually mod it and test it yourself.
I will mod the churchill with 1280 hp and 320 armor, come back with the result.
and really, it's more important for the churchill to have good hp and armor than for it to have a decent gun. lower the penetration to 80/100/120 if needed.
this related to the cromwell as well. It's important for the cromwell tank to have good survivability (size 18) than a decent gun. The british still have comet/firefly/6pdr for handling tank. |
Well 320 armor and 1280 hp not doctrinal for only 180 fuel would be spammed like no tomorrow (and in biased right ?)
really, there's one golden rule in this case: can the panther beat the churchill 1v1.
the panther should still be able to kill the churchill on a 1v1 basis, but it should take a long time. |
I suppose another idea would be to bring back the shell swapping that was in the alpha - just change it so that there are lighter shells that can reach/counter ISG. (Say, current range of Pit) This would add the same aspect of micro where you need to switch to the smaller shells in order to counter ISGs and the like.
HE shells would also add some risk/reward to aggressively placing MPs and let you better dominate the areas closer to it.
I'm pretty sure the current mortar emplacement is just permanently on long range mode from the alpha. |
240 armor is actually OK for tank with such huge HP bar. Make it bigger and there will be really only one way to stop that beast - using PaK 43s or heavy TDs, and all of them are doctrinal.
The concept of a durable allied tank isn't new. the soviet get access to the is2 by default.
if the axis atw can deal with 1040 hp 375 armor, it can deal with 1280 hp 320 armor.
and the difference between 1040 and 1280 is smaller than it looks.
1280/160 = 8
1040/160 = 6.5 (7) |
The ISG autofires on every unit that they have spotted and is in their cone of fire. They do not autorotate and autoengage units unless you right click on an enemy unit, at which point it will try to track them.
It also never oneshots units, unlike it's allied sibling.
the leig now auto rotate and auto engage. It was changed back in a previous patch. |
So, if armor is ok, gun is ok - what's wrong with Churchill then? That's question to OP, cos I don't understand his point about Chruchill at all.
Suggestion to give some "bonus to units around Churchill" is... kinda good but only in one case - it won't have main gun. Just like Cromwell Commander in vCoH.
Actually, I think it could be good to change Churchill in Anvil tactics to single Cromwell/Comet Command tank, which will perform like Command Panther (with some another bounses and abilites, though) and will be unarmed. And won't cost too much because of it, maybe 50-80 fuel. What do you think about it?
240 armor is not okay for a unit whose main(and sole) purpose is to act as the spearhead of an assault.
and the churchill is not the first stone wall tank to fail. the kv-1 is pretty much in the same boat. |
I think, if we will buff Churchill more it will once turn into KT...
But seriously, it's fine. Deals with infantry, middle tanks, has so much HP and armor, that PaK 43 or Elephant sometimes becoming your only option to survive, cos even Panthers don't deal enough damage.
The king tiger's durability is not the only thing that make it fearsome, it's the fact it's got the 88mm kwk 43 doom cannon.
Even if churchill have the same hp and armor as the king tiger, the king tiger is still going to be the stronger unit.
We are not even complaining about the churchill's gun, as those knowledgeable recognize the fact that the 75mm ROQF was a "ok" gun at best.

the bofor suppression barrage need its range lowered to 60 meters from 80 meter. The suppression barrage basically allow the emplacement to counter its own counter, the mortar. As the ostheer you're basically locked into the mortar HT in order to counter the emplacement.
the mortar emplacement should have its auto fire range lowered to 80 meters. 115 meter is far too much coverage. maybe lower cost to 360 mp to compensate. the emplacement can still use its 115 meter barrage range to attack distance enemy.
the tommies' artillery flare should get a range buff back to 35 meters. It's a ridiculously easy to dodge artillery due to the obvious red smoke and long delay. The only thing that can't reasonably dodge it is the immobile okw truck or ost bunker. |
Plz, dont write what you dont know about.
Vet depends of resourse value of damage dealt, if your unit does lots of damage to cheap tank it gain way less experience than if it did less damage to an expensive tank. Churchiil is relatively cheap and has huge hp poll which makes experience rewarded by doing hp damage even less. Its one of the most, if not the most unrewarding tank to shot at experience-wise.
540 mp and 180 fuel isn't cheap
even with the reduced price of 490 mp 160 fuel is still pretty pricey
and penetration shot taking away ~11% of a tank's hp grants more experience than a deflected shot dealing 0% damage. |
320 armor (panther)
1280 hp (king tiger)
510 mp 185 fuel
16 pop (panther)
there.
