BUT there would have been chance that they would have killed that KV8 (if Soviet player was careless). There was another gren there on the left, it could have fausted (succesfully) that chasing KV8, then it would have been bye bye KV8. Even without any fausts, KV8 doesn't just have that super armor anymore. It goes down quite fast. That trade I would have done any day of the week. I think your "(if Soviet player was careless)" shows the problem perfectly. German player would have to be so good he'd manage to retreat in 1 second of being attacked and have 2 paks in exactly the right place. and STILL lose the gren squad. And the soviet player loses his totally unsupported unit only "(if he is careless)" When one army is brually punished even if they are careful and the other side only might be punished even if he is careless - this is imbalance. (no sarcasm) The Grens are unsupported, on the mid vp of Crossing which is always savagely contested( thus an amazing spot to set teller mines and cripple tanks) with the entire unit boxed in to green cover. How often does this happen to top 100 players? Even if the grens were supported, they would have died anyway. 2 paks wouldn't have stopped that from happening. What difference do you think it would make to have support there? The KV would've taken some damage and that's all. The grens would still have died. It's far too harsh. Neither army should have super-rapid-squad-wiping units. It's not reasonable. And even top-100 players lose plenty of squads in this manner. 1 second is not a reasonable amount of time to expect players to react when the punishment for a "slow" 2-second reaction is losing a whole squad. I prefer to play as Germans but I disagree with that part of your post. Neither army should have a unit that forces the other army to blob or die. "All you have to do is put half your army in one place" - One does not simply put half your army in one place and maintain map control. The FHT was severely OP. Jump back to quoted post15 May 2014, 18:06 PMMr. Someguy The KV-8 on the other hand does more damage than 3 FHT projectors combined (FHT only has 2), while also being a health tank and armour tank. Honestly, you know a unit is bad when one of the best stratagies for it is to just drive it straight to the enemy's base and force them to pull all their Panzers back to HQ. I agree. It's over the top. As was the FHT which also used to run into people's bases with Benny Hill blaring. I say neither army should have units that can so quickly and unexpectedly destroy whole squads. Not that I was expecting any reasoning from you. I think annoying units are usually annoying because they over/underperform. Think of any unit that has ever annoyed you. Did it annoy you because it overperformed or for another reason? A unit that annoys a large number of players is very likely in need of fixing. One the other hand it's a fact lower-skilled players are easily annoyed by the more complex units in CoH. But with the Maxim I don't think it's the case. I find it annoying too (I'm not a high-level player). It could be annoying because I'm not good enough or it could be because: They're aren't very vulnerable to snipers (6-man teams) Faster set-up time, faster rotate rate, higher damage than MG42 Narrow arc is unexploitable on narrow choke-point maps (this is more a map issue than a maxim issue) In: COH2 Balance

If you cap a long way from your own HQ then kv-8 is gonna smoke you. I am fine with kv-8s chasing and killing units who cap to deep in to enemy territory. Yes, you should be wary when you're pushing/spreading out. But a high % chance of losing a squad is brutal punishment for capping anywhere past the mid-zone. This greatly reduces motivation to play dynamically and makes for a stale meta-game. I think if you're capping deep in enemy territory it's punishment enough to have to wait for the unit to run all the way back to base. I don't think either Soviets or Germans should face a high risk of losing a squad for having a dynamic playstyle. Do you remember the FHT lameness? That thing killing all your soviet brothers even when a full squad retreated. It ruined the game totally. I don't see why players of either army should be punished so much for being adventurous. Thread: Poor MG42 vs Rich MaxPin!15 May 2014, 15:51 PM Could some Soviet and German players arrange a test-game together where they show the MG42 and Maxim doing the things they claim? I personally feel that the MG42 is not performing and the Maxim is slightly overperforming and making the game static BUT I might be wrong and just need to L2P. SO we need a test to feed this discussion with more facts. They could test: Does MG42/Maxim suppress on first burst? How many times (out of 5) does it suppress? How often does it half-burst resulting in no suppression? MG42/Maxim suppress multiple squads stood next to each other (not overlapping) a la Coh1? Can units really through outer-cone of MG42/Maxim? Can conscripts OO-RAH through the MG42 cone if they run just inside the outer edge? What is quicker - MG42 rotate rate or Maxim unpack-aim-repack time? If each scenario is performed 3-5 times, we will have some indicators that will help the discussion. Perhaps we could have 2 German-biased tesers, 2 soviet-biased testers and 2 non-biased testers? If noone volounteers, I'll do it myself but I'll need a partner please! (By the way: Who'd say that the amount of narrow paths on maps means the extra cone on the MG42 is superfluous and the Maxim's narrow cone is wide enough to cover most approaches? Maybe the maps are causing the problems rather than the units themselves...?) In: COH2 Balance
Thread: Thought about the Penal and Guards Infantry15 May 2014, 00:11 AM I think it could be interesting to have upgradeable penals. It'd be a reason not to spam conscripts. Otherwise mid-late game penals have nothing to do. No anti-tank grenade, no AT weapon - They become a bit obsolete... Upgrades woulda make them more useful for the full game. But no need to make them OP. If penals have been upgraded to flamethrower, they shouldn't be able to get LMG too. It should be an EITHER/OR, not a HAVE-ALL-THE-WEAPON-TYPES! Nice and wide, fun to use LOS, very dynamic with maneuverability and flankability. Semoisky Winter, it has the least chokepoints, you can attack from surprising positions. Worst maps: Chokepoints in the Woods. MG to Datgun Road to Kharkov. No flankability maps Semoisky Summer Choke. Hmmmm... Which of the 3 exits will they choose, hmmmmm... In: COH2 Gameplay
