@OP coulndt have said it better.

I've seen people nagging on wanting some more "VCOH" styled commanders, and here they are. You expected them to be free? Delusions of grandeur much. You reap what you sow.
On a good note, they said future-free commanders would have originality as well. And besides that, even existing commanders are extremely versatile and useful. There's a clear indication on the pros/cons between the commanders they've shown.
Principal? DLC is a common business model. Is it PAY 2 WIN? Who knows, so far the commanders are actually fairly well balanced out. Heck, give it a month or so until it settles in to make some verdict before jumping on the bandwagon of "Lolzpay2winz".
This much sums up my view on the matter as well.
Also, it has been clearly stated what is in the DCE and not for quite some time. That AND the preorder (even though the preorder perks changed during beta).
Digital Collectors Edition
The Digital Collector's Edition includes the following:
Vehicle Skin Combo Pack
25 Vehicle Skins
Exclusive Collector Faceplate
Collector’s Edition Faceplate with Integrated Badge
10 Commander Archetypes
Soviet Commanders
Anti-Infantry Tactics
Conscript Support Tactics
Terror Tactics
Armored Assault Tactics
Mechanized Support Tactics
German Commanders
Joint Operations Doctrine
Spearhead Doctrine
Storm Doctrine
Fortified Armor Doctrine
Lightning War Doctrine
Theater of War Mini Pack
Case Blue Mini Pack (think the name is a new edition)
Company of Heroes Complete Pack
The Award Winning Game Collection that Started it All
IF you some how feel ripped off, you clearly didnt read up. If you whine in hindsight, take a look at the offer. You already got content in the DCE that is not free. There is very little that is exclusive in the DCE though aoart from the faceplate.
That said, I do hope and think that these new abilities will be incorporated in more new commanders down the line, or some to put in to commanders already availeble. Osttruppen come to mind.

Seem really nice! Really like to see some new units that provides new ways to tackle the opponent and new meta evolve! |
@Nullist. In what way is it universal knowledge that tanks get .5 modifier on the move? Its something that would make sense, but I would argue that the numbers ARE NOT universal knowledge, if it was, this thread wouldnt exist would it? Think you have to accept that everyone does not know what you do nullist, dont have to be a smartass about it. |
+1 on the gametime!
Truesight cant be stressed enough and smoke in combination with this.
The commander system, brings alot of flexibility into choice of doctrine and more personal way to play.
Cappingzones, no more cheesy bikepushes.
Sinking tanks through Ice.
Overall enjoying teamgames more in CoH2.
Vet abilities on all units and a vet system that makes more sense.
Nice variety of mines.
The dev support that goes into the game (patches, updates), as well as the communitywork with twitch and all, that relic does.

One of the points I tried to raise was that even with blitzkrieg, you're making a huge risk to rush a soviet. [...]
Again, it's not "panther vs su85". It's "both faction's dedicated AT tank", where I believe the panther falls short. On paper it seems so, in my personal experience it seems so, and judging by its total lack of notable presence in any tournament it seems so too.
Yes, rushing in is always a high risk thing to do, and might not be rewarding all the time. And losing a panther is a hard blow to the armyvalue.
Not many in tournaments perhaps. See them more in teamgames. Mostly play 2v2 and some above. Some units (as well as commanders) are more viable in larger games than in smaller I think.
And I still dont buy the dedicated AT tank idea, since they have so diffrent roles. The go to AT tank to compare the Su85 with is the StuG. Which in many ways reminds of the Su85 with its turretless design etc. Range and sight is worse, but for pure AT purposes (shooting down tanks) it does the job ok. It also comes at a lower tier than panther, and costs significantly less.
I see it like this. Su85 and StuG are TDs. The Panther is more of an agressive tankhunter, something that is missing in the soviet standard tiers.
Edit: @last poost by Shazz, I would also like to see the panther a bit more cost-effective. Just that I think that you compare it to the wrong unit (it is very hard to compare it to a right one, since the soviet doesnt have any equivalent.) |
I also recommend using the artillery officer in games where you can afford to have a couple of panzerwerfers, usually teamgames. The victor target (also forgot the name of the ability) costs 80 munitions, but can be fired without consideration to where your panzerwerfers are. So you could hit across the map. The more werfers the merrier. And the best part, you can instantly fire your panzerwerfers again. This pummels soviet infantry, Zis, and can also make a dent on Su85s.
Problem is to get the squad close enough. What I like to do is to move them up far on the map where I suspect the enemy will be moving or keep their units. I keep the squad hid behind bushes, houses or whatever, let other units scout. When the enemy is advancing, or you found a nice defensive blob, pop the barrage and move the unit to safety. Love it. |
I think you make a mistake by comparing them in a vacuum like that. I dont think the stats look all that bad. And you are really not giving much for the turret, which is what makes this unit so much more versitile than the SU. Ingame it eats Su85s like candy 1v1. At vet 1 with blitz its crazy fast, and smoke provides good getaway chances. Really giving this unit the upper hand against a su85.
Even if both are AT weapons the SU does best by either lurking at the back, or slowly creeping in. The Panther on the other hand is a deep flank unit. Rush in, hit desired targets and move out again, something a SU has serious problems with due to the lack of a turret.
In that sense, both are AT, but they got different roles. One is backline TD, the other one frontline makes heck of a difference imo. Ostheer dedicated TD is rather the StuG. A comparison between those would be more fair (StuG falls short here though, but cheaper).

There are hundred of games with dedicated server, without fee. Lag is terrible and it makes people leaving game for good. It's rather question if relic really want to support their game.
Not going to argue with you on that one. I also hate lag and would be really happy without it, and I would also like the servers. But as you stated yourself, the support is the key factor. Support for their game is there already: free maps (that cost time to develop and playtest), balancepatches (more work that they are not getting paid for), artwork, events, twitch casts, community managers etc etc. All of those are items that they dont get paid for (might attract customers though), and are meant to keep us in the game. Ofc other games might have all of the above as well, just saying the money for servers and upkeep has to come from somewhere. Maybe the DLC gives enough room though.
Last, lets not forget that the vast majority of players dont play anything other than campaign or compstomp. According to steam stats, only 6.6% of the players have played more than 10 automatches. They also have to be realistic where they want to put their money. Put alot of money into a small playerbase, or the same amount of money but can attract alot more new players that pay for the new content. Depending on company policy the conclusions can vary alot.
Edit: added stuff |
Would you pay for it? I think that is the question that should follow this topic. Not all players are interested in paying more for the game. Myself, I have a job etc, and actually wouldnt mind to pay a monthly fee for server upkeep etc just to keep this game alive (compared to mmos, this game is really cheap/hrs played for me). To get dedicated servers cost, alot. There are more questions that could go along with this, but thats another topic.
Also, ignore the voice of the people? Sure they can. You already paid for the game. Ofcourse they want like to keep you as a customer, but if you are not willing to pay and just recieve things for free, its not likely going to change. If you stop playing in protest, not much will happen. They wont lose any money unless you were willing to spend some.
