It's nothing more than my own assumptions, but I always just guessed they went with the hip-firing bipods in cover to avoid having to make enough nice and clean animations for putting the bipod against cover of many different sizes - for example, sandbags come up to around soldiers' waists while abandoned vehicles tend to be at least up to their necks. Thus, they went with two-sizes-fit-all with the prone and hip-firing animations.

The original suggestion would be to use the shoulder fired rifle animations associated with most regular weapons when a unit is in cover and forcing the squad to take a knee. Therefore you wouldn’t need new animations, just to repurpose old ones. A guy holding an MG42 like a rifle while kneeling would put the bipod at about the right height for most cover. Look at what BARs look like in cover. They always have the bipod down and are always shoulder fired. So when they take a knee behind a wall or in a crater it almost looks like they are using the bipod to support it.

Now of course if it can’t be done that’s another matter, which appears to be the case, so it’s a moot point.

I quite like the idea of infiltration pathfinders. They’re a cool unit that is underutilized, but not underpowered. They are also one of the few combat units that should use M1 Carbines instead of M1 Garands, plus the two M1C sniper rifles. See my thread and poll about the M1 carbine and you’ll see what I would like to see in the SBP for US.

+1 to seeing a Scott rework. I’d personally like to see all US tiers more or less reworked to have a balance between AT, AI and IDF. Currently each tier more or less already does this, but Maj tier is the best at everything with really no reason to go Capt unless you really need AT but don’t have the fuel for an all around better M36 Jackson.

Maybe add the M10 to Captain tier with some nerfs to range and some other changes to give the Captain more flexibility, while still letting the Maj be better at everything.

On the topic of REMF Rifle grenades, they actually had a launcher for the M1 Carbine that was able to use the same grenades as the one for the M1 Garand, so there's really no reason that they switch to an M1 Garand to launch the grenades.

Sorry, just a bit off topic, but interesting.

I would quite like to see range tings for min/max range on the us fighting position rifle grenades. Static range markers for emplacements are a must. I like the idea of them on vehicles too, but I can see why some players would prefer having to “eyeball” ranges to make things more skill based.

But I think we can all agree that Mim/max range rings for emplacements is a good thing to add. They could even disappear once the emplacement is built, but would still be extremely helpful to placing them, yet unobtrusive once built.

I think adding the M1919A4 in as either the standard US MG or as a paratrooper doctrinal call in to replace the .50 cal drop would be cool, but I don’t see it happening. Personally, I’d like tonaldo see a light AT gun replace the M1 57mm AT Gun as the paratrooper dropped AT gun. I think it would fit the flavor of airborne better and also not make it a way to skip tech. It makes it a trade off. If you want an MG or AT gun right now, you can drop one, but if you want the standard and better .50 cal or M1 ATG, then you still have to tech. Although I would rather see the .50 cal buffed and moved to a doctrine and see the regular non-doctrinal US MG be the M1919A4 .30 cal.

This is of course all just hypothetical and beyond the scope of the original poll anyways.

But it seems like almost everyone wants to see the M1 carbine take its rightful place as the US support weapon crew individual weapon, so let’s push to make that happen with the Spring Balance Patch!

Also, more discussion on the M1 Garand replacing carbines in Para squads and Rangers until they are upgraded. I like it for clarity, realism and flavor, without changing any stats, ie, no rebalancing anything at all, but I see the poll is about 50/50 on that, so sound off in the forum and support your opinion!
