I haven't built this unit in over 6 months now (mainly because it is one-shottable by Elefants etc). Thus, I am in no way qualified to comment on this.
However, I am still curious; how does the current m8a1 and the buffed m8a1 compare to:
- OST mortars
- Pack Howies
The reason that I am asking is that it seems that the m8a1 has a far shorter range (60). Moreover, since it is on wheels, it is snipeable by AT, tanks, Schrecks (which are hopefully on the way out). This makes the m8a1 a babysit unit on a faction that already struggles with babysitting on the late-game (Jackson flotilla, etc).
The way I see it, if I wanted a set-and-forget indirect fire unit for the USF, I would pick the Pack Howitzer (which is also better). The only foresee-able use (not covered by pack howitzers) I can think for the M8a1 Scott is countering pak-walls (where mobility is useful). How well do the current and the buffed m8a1 scotts do this job?

It does desperately need multiple buffs and a cost decrease. The FlakHT doesn't need direct buffs per se. However, it does suffer immensely from having its projectiles collide with whatever little tree/wall/little obstacle happens to be on the way. Sure, Most non-Centaur tanks also suffer from the safe fate. However, with other tanks, you can simply relocate to a better vantage point and fire away. However, the FlakHT has to stop and setup. That makes it very awkward to use. It would be nice if they could make the FlakHT more consistent (e.g., more accurate, but less suppression-per-volley). With the upcoming balance patch, I don't see the point of ever buying a FlakHT, when I can buy the cheapest MG in the game. (With every other faction in the game, I would definitely buy the AA HT for its AA capabilities. However, for OKW, that point is moot, since they get free-popcap AA with their T4). In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: Armor Company is Highly Overrated3 May 2016, 11:22 AM
I would say that if we only consider the non-DLC doctrines, Armor Company is pretty damn good. Also, it's consistently reliable all modes; from 1v1 through 4v4 (but for different reasons). I am mostly with Cookies on this one. However, I will concede that some troll units/abilities need a bit of help: Bulldozer ShermanWith the Volksblob being thrown out of the game, this unit will already become 10x more viable. This unit could benefit from the treatment Brumbar is getting this patch, and you are going to start seeing more of them. Currently, I only build this unit when I need Heavy Crush (the thing that destroys everything; like Panthers, Tigers etc do). I also love the unit for the insane amount of damage it deals vs ambient buildings when you ram that tank against them. Elite Vehicle CrewsThis ability may have a very niche role in 1v1's (everything above that is a clusterfuck; not worth stepping out of the tank to use it). If the ability were cheaper, we would probably see more frequent use of it. Thought experiment: - Would reducing the price to 30 Munition make this upgrade appealing to use? - Would 30 Munitions make it too OP? Then increase the price and reiterate. - I would say that 60-ish munition is definitely not too expensive, but it's not too cheap either. The only way anybody is going to abuse this ability and spam vehicle crews is: - If they spam AAHT or Stuarts (M20 crews cannot be upgraded with Thompsons); not very cost effective - If they are CptSPrice and decide to spam M10s. Your vehicle crews will not have to remain idle at the base. Also, at the same time you have your swarm ready. Everything else is fine-ishAssault Engineers A great utility unit, but don't spam it as your main combat unit 280mm barrage - In bigger modes, having more than 2 OKW players on the field means that they are going to stick their trucks next to one another. Ever wondered what happens when you throw this ability in the middle of OKW-Ville as the enemy blobs retreat? - Sure, the ability can be replaced by another one, and nobody will miss it. However, a straight buff to this ability would turn it into a monster. M10 Wolverine - Nuff said. In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: (may preview) jackson sight buff and veterancy bonus2 May 2016, 12:56 PM
For spotting scopes, at least you have the trade-off between moving (including) and spotting. Also, the longest-range tank that benefits from it has range 50 (Panther or Stugs). I don't even want to imagine what a self-spotting Elefant would have looked like. Range 60 self-spotting tank with no mobility trade-off might be a bit trickier (*cough* JP4 *cough*).
I think I prefer the idea of having to use scout vehicles into the late-game (T70, 222, etc), as opposed to having self-spotting tanks. That is, assuming that the vehicles meant for scouting are: - Cheap, but not dirt-cheap - The sight range they provide is short enough so that they have to be slightly exposed. 222 + Spotting scopes is broken and completely fails both requirements I mentioned. However, it is easier to fix 222 + spotting scope combo than breaking every other faction to match this cheese. The easiest way is to make scoping scope upgrade exclusive with other buffs -- similar to how USF Pershing commander "Combined Arms" works. You are the one that found the Pershing bug, so you know what I mean!
Command Panther aura is +20 sight range (additive, not multiplicative). God (222) already has an insane spotting range, though. I don't think this will make a noticeable difference. In: COH2 Balance |

1. USF is the only faction in the game whose stock does not contain a reliable recon unit.Since they have to rely on glass-cannon TD for their late-game, they very badly need a recon unit. Go over their unit roster now, and tell me which unit provides decent sight range. The only two options are: - m20: 50 range (Vet0), 60 range (Vet1) - Stuart: 35 range (Vet0), 43 range (Vet1), 56 range (Vet3) - (for comparison, infantry has sight range 35, and Panzerschrecks have gun range 35) The M20 has 240 HP (equal to the old 222). The Stuart has 400 HP (the Jackson has 480 HP), and it is not very easy to vet a Stuart in the lategame, if you have to replace them. (please don't come up with "Major recon!!1!1!") 2. Jackson needed that sight bonus at Vet0 (if only to avoid infantry when they chase the big cats). However, even with 45 sight range, you still something else to screen for your jackson, when you want to kill: - Panthers (gun range: 50) - (King) Tigers: (gun range: 45) 3. Self-spotting TDs is not a good idea (for the same reasons that omni-potent Volks is not a good idea either).I completely agree with Firesparks on this one. However, for the reasons outlined in #1 and #2, I am more in favour of toning down the Vet2 bonus. This is because of reasons #1 and #2, and also the fact if you make a single mistake with the Jacksons, they are dead (and flop goes their Vet). An alternative would be to change the Vet2 bonus to +10% (for a grand total 50 sight range at Vet2). Command Panther - 55sight. I don't think you can use either of these units Vet/Non-Vet bonuses as a baseline for a balance conversation. This is for the same reasons you can't use the vet bonuses of USF Riflemen Veterancy as the baseline. They are all... special. In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: [OKW] The Jagdtiger28 Apr 2016, 10:07 AM
As much as some biased posters cry about it, piercing shot is almost unusable, and so is the explosive barrage, killing AT's with it at any range requires your oponent to AFK and RNGJESUS to bless you. Piercing shot works almost just fine. It seems that there is a 5-second delay between activating it, and when your Jagd can start benefiting the ability. What I mean is that: - Suppose there is an enemy target behind a building - I activate the piercing shot ability - If I right click right away on the target, the Jagtiger will try to go around the building - Even if you attack-ground, the shots will hit the building - If I wait for ~5 seconds before right-clicking, the Jagtiger will engage through the building, pak43-style - (after the 5 second delay elapses, attack ground will ALSO traverse buildings) - I haven't checked whether the ability works for the entire duration (because no single target can survive more than 20 seconds) I haven't checked the actual files, but that's what it looked like to me when I was The barrage ability is also insane. For 40 munitions you can snipe just about anything you can imagine. - Provided that there is absolutely no bump on the ground between you and the target. - In fact, I was actually using it to snipe vetted AT guns (because AT guns had to remain still to fire at my other tanks) In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: Just my two cents on upcoming patch27 Apr 2016, 15:28 PM
Just want to say USF & Brits don't have non-doctrine counters to the pac43 tbh Actually, Brits do have a non-doc counter to the Pak43. Just aim your Tulip rockets at max range against against the Pak43 (RedxWings-style). The Pak43 will be destroyed 100% of the time. The new patch -might- deny that counter (Firefly rocket damage reduction), but -might- introduce a new one (Arty flare range increase, and Anvil arty is not completely useless anymore). Note that: - Firefly Tulips traverse buildings, just like the Pak43 - Tulips instantly destroy any neutral items they traverse (abandoned team weapons/tanks etc) -- T-34-ram-style. In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: When will relic address the 210MP/15Fuel Tank destroyer27 Apr 2016, 14:47 PM
Bear in mind that the 222 is affected by two crippling features/bugs: - The turret-mounted MG has issues tracking infantry. Miragefla has fixed this in his mod. If you've tried it, you will see what I mean, and you will also see why Miragefla went for a FU cost increase with the unit. If your infantry uses a 2-story building and, somehow, the models end up using the top-story windows, the 222 will have trouble firing back. - There is no attack ground option for 222. This means jack if you are playing SU. However, USF/UKF can exploit the bug by using the smoke ability on their M20/AEC and using attack ground to fire back (in the case of M20 you will use the bazookas under smoke cover). If the 222 uses smoke, run to the smoke patch and use it against them. The 222 will not be able to fire back. That's all the wisdom I had to contribute regarding the 666-pocalpyse. In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: Where do we report bugs?27 Apr 2016, 14:40 PM
Forcing people to use the official forums, what a cruel joke It seems a bit frustrating, yes. However, to be completely fair, making bug reports about a piece of software on a fan-fueled website (even if it is THE fan-fueled website) and having those bugs picked up was a luxury. Hopefully, this will allow the proverbial "1-2 people still working on CoH2" focus their efforts and fix what's being reported In: COH2 Bugs |

Thanks to you both! I guess I'll start reporting things on the official forums for the time being. In the meantime, I will also be opening threads on the CoH2.org bug subforum linking to the official forum posts, in case somebody has an interest in keeping current with coh2 bugs. In: COH2 Bugs |
