It could be cheaper yeah. The reason I said 200 is so that it is a tad more expensive than bombing runs.
Also, if it was the VCoH strafe (not the PE one) then I'm fine with not having a air support option.
At the moment, not only is the range too high, the duration is too long (for the soviet one as well), enough to shut down any attacks. This acts just like an "I have a plane in the skies so I don't care what troops you had with you, I win"
And also, ingame, 60 seconds is a long time. |
I agree
Actually, this can happen if
a) you know your opponent doesn't have any/enough AT
b) Early in the game if you go for a fast T-70 and surprise him and send him into his base. |
And also, tank mounted MGs are ridiculous in taking down Soviet aircraft. The soviet AA platform is not so good at it though.
Something needs to change on the Ostheer side in terms of this. |
In VCoH, the AA was more or less of a sideshow, especially with the Americans. I do not expect this to change.
And this is certainly worth it if you don't want to get forced of the field that much/get your attack neutralised by a 120-150 muni plane which stops everything. If it's a stuka, fair enough, if it's a strafing run... really...
Considering many doctrines have air-based abilities, this may not be a bad thing, but it needs to be made expensive so it's not spammable. |
In light of all the shenanigans with strafe (and the fact aircraft had no hard counter, especially from the Russian side), I was thinking, wait, an air war was advertised in the COH2 ads. All we have so far is influence from the air.
So, I've came up with the idea of the doctrinal ability air superiority, which should be available to both factions
Air Superiority
Cost: 200 muni (or higher, depending on how much the bombing runs cost) 4 CP (or 5, depending on when fighters/bombers come in)
Time elapsed: 1 minute
Effect: Air superiority calls in two fighters to ensure that no enemy aircraft activity gets through. IE, any enemy aircraft gets shot down before they complete their mission. The fighters do not affect ground combat in any other way.
Why does it cost a lot more than a strafe?
The reason is so that this button doesn't become, "haha, you spent more muni than me, and your strafe gets cancelled too." It becomes a button which denies strafe and allows your men to move around unpinned.
Why would I ever use it?
If you're conducting an infantry heavy assault, the last thing you want to get is to get it ended by a strafe which happens to pin everyone, thus neutralising your assault. Also it allows you to hold a desperate defence without getting bombed/strafed, giving you a chance.
It should not be spammed so it needs to be used wisely.
What needs to be changed so that this doesn't become OP
Men should no longer call out "Airstrike". That way, it doesn't become a I WIN button if you have no awareness of flares.
Air superiority cannot be called in by both sides at the same time. The first person to call it gets to send his fighters in while the other side cannot send this in until the duration of air superiority runs out. |
I'm not so sure about faster firing, but maxim spam over the past month tended to encourage this. |
Yeah, this needs to be desperately fixed.
No, I do not want my squads in my base getting pinned by a strafe that is centered around the middle...
It doesn't matter whether it is 120 muni or 400 muni - there should be no ability that is the big I-win button that this is. Because that's all this is - a "I shut down Soviets for 2 minutes button" - enough time to get another strafe in. |
Thanks, finally got it done.
For me this is how I got it done.
Wave 1- mg42 team, and flamer pioneer, basically make them retreat
Wave 2- 2 mg42 teams and flamer, wipe out conscripts keep a few guards squads alive, let them kill your teams, then get up, go walk the dogs with the wife, eat supper, and come back an hour later, you will have 9999mp, ~1200muni, and ~300fuel, enough to build whatever you need.
Cheesy as all hell, but gets the job done, there is a twitch recording on my stream channel, need to edit it, but that is basically it.
That's.... no fun....
Might as well have went conscript mode |
He's Iron Roman, the legendary Stag spammer.
Legend has it that when lend lease vehicles are involved in COH2: Tales of Vladivostok, Iron Roman will drive his stags all the way from Siberia to Berlin via Moscow. |
Hey, I played a few games today, as Soviets. Everytime I got defeated, it was by Axis.
I think Axis is OP.
I was mirror matching with Axis today. Everytime I lost, Axis won.
