I freaking love this game. I'm frequently frustrated with relic due to lack of marketing/transparency and lack of new content(western front armies have 6 commanders) and their lack of real communication with the community. I think Cynthia does all she can but is entirely hamstrung by a seemingly draconian NDA. They should be able to say they are working on bug x or new commanders or whatever. There is certainly space between where they are and full disclosure ruining the company.
Imagine if they said they are working on four new commanders. We would all speculate when and what but it wouldn't hurt them. It might actually build some hype. If it turned out one was op just say so. It would anger some but largely build some trust. I think they could discuss far more with us and I think it would ultimately help the playerbase and relic. At the very least it would cut down on negative speculation.
I'm sure they can see why we get so frustrated with them but it seems they do not take any steps to resolve it for the immediate issue or future issues, which leads to even more frustration. I want the game to succeed and I want them all to make money. I also want to feel I've gotten my money's worth. Sometimes I want new stuff to give them more money for

I don't see skill planes any differently than off map arty. Click two buttons and some stuff happens. The fact that ostheer has infantry strafes, 37mm strafes, and dive bombs while usf has p47 rocket strafes just doesn't equate. Usf has better off map arty, albeit in mostly unused doctrines. It seems like the same argument against jumbo or pershing. "Well there are too many now and it breaks the meta" one side gets all the good toys and the other goes to bed with no dinner. Okay so the army air corps exaggerated on its tank kills. Why no anti-infantry strafe? Why no carpet bomber? It seems a bit... horseshit that the luftwaffe can have a presence in the game but the usaac can't because history? ummm...... no. gameplay? how are american skillplanes antithetical to gameplay? true the botb was during crap weather so no planes, but it fell apart when.... the skies cleared and the army air corps could relieve/rearm front line troops and start attacking ground targets again. but since when is this game caught up on historical acuracy? I'm positive that the germans didnt have effective infrared anything during the battle of the bulge. The had some prototype i/r scopes in like feb 45. historical acuracy would demand far more panzerfausts and far less panzershreks. also would demand far more p ivs and far less of everything bigger. wwii proved that whoever controls the skies will control the ground/sea. Luftwaffe proved that, and was then summarily defeated and then the western allied troops invaded with american air cover. i do not doubt they lied about their kills, but that doesn't change the fact that allied air supremacy was a major factor in winning the war. The only faction with a real air presence is the .... Ostheer.??!!?!?! I'm not saying every american doctrine should have p47 at rockets. I am saying the us army is wildly misrepresented in the game concerning airpower( and artillery) In: COH2 Gameplay |

Okay, so this will never happen but whatever. i think it would help a few things. new tier: colonel maybe, the only thing i know for sure i want there is the m36. make colonel only buildable after major. this pushes back the "heavy" TD back there with the heavy tanks in timing. Perhaps a couple new units with it, maybe a calliope or some rocket arty. something else too Major now has m10 instead of m36. This will allow a mid game TD for usf without completely negating ostheer T3. compensate armor doctrine somehow, or not. not sure about that Captain now has all the light vehicles. the Lt or Capt choice will still be there, not mandatory linear tech. the only problem i see is that this will push the m20 back a bit, thus reducing it's window of opportunity. pushes the m15 back a bit, which gives another minute or so on an m15 rush. and finally, LT has all the team weapons, pack howie, m2 hmg, and the 57mm at gun. I'd also lower the fuel cost on LT tier but raise the MP cost. You get the officer for teching, and hes basically a buffed rifle, so maybe 320 mp or thereabouts. Maybe only 25-30 fuel though. My whole idea is to get the team weapons earlier for usf, so they are more like the vanilla, while also delaying the m36. The m36 is the end game TD that is available at the start of the mid-game phase. for it's punch, it's far too early. Lowering it's punch would cripple the USF vs the heavy axis tanks, so that's no good either. This would also give the faction space for another unit or two in the final tier. perhaps tie Bars, Zooks and Nades to tiers instead of researching. If so, nades/bars with LT, zooks with capt. I've no idea about a colonel unit. maybe one man, no pop cap, dances a little jig for 5 munis that inspires nearby troops. USF has enough popcap/upkeep problem with the other officers, that doesnt need compounded. Maybe the colonel can repair vehicles. something useful. don't alter base structure itself, just make t0 not one of those buildings. of course this is spitballing, and will never happen. i just thought it might be a start point for a good discussion. I'm not saying usf should have a skillplane in every doctrine but there should be a army air corps doxtrine. clone the damn ostheer one for all i care, just give the army with the most superior air force some sort of air presence in the game. ive thought this since the beginning of WFA. Asggrens are bad after 5 mins and require good micro,but they are only option against USF.Without assgrens and stug E who do u think will save u vs rifles and light vehicles?Certainly not the popcornsprayer42. The mg 42 needs a bit of help but it isn't as bad as all that. A grens can be awesome if used well. I personally go with the "supplemental" variant of the linked guide. Use them like sturmpio. Flanking unit and cqc only. Urban maps are generally the only place they can truly shine. Hiding one on the periphery and jumping a lone capping squad is nice too. Must close fast though. Use sprint often. I personally think the stug is the best part of this doctrine, especially since squad group patch. |

Mg42 is a monster at vet 2 and 3. Getting it there is the problem. As soon as it has one star spam the crap out of the incendiary ap rounds. I've had a single mg42 rape blobs if I spot for it. It starts firing after blob is in the arc and watch them melt. It even chews up light vehicles. That said... mg reload out of combat would be nice, especially for the mg42 since all infantry tactics are based around the mg holding the line. The m2 .50 seems more like a cover retreat/auxiliary weapon since it's crew is made of glass. The mg34 just isn't good at much. The maxim can be silly, but that's fine. Even with a tiny arc maxim is great. It can enter any other mgs arc and force it to retreat (silly). The 42 needs a little traverse buff, maybe slight suppression buff (~5-10%). M2 needs a crew buff, the weapon itself is fine. For its price the mg34 is fine. I'd love to see mgs not suppress when suppressed themselves and unable to fire when pinned. I think there is certainly room to improve coh2. That said the ultimate result we all want is going to have to wait for coh3. Relic could totally redesign the factions, but i would bet my life's savings that will not happen. without going there, we can only discuss tweaks. personally i think Wehrmacht is the most well done and the others should mimic it, but vary in certain ways. for instance, change usf to make it more linear(cant got lt->maj, must build capt) but still maintain the flexibility. make soviets linear but vastly improve non-doc units and make the tiers cheapers. okw.... make it so trucks cant be set up more than X distance from the base? but definitely more linear. Making everyone linear will slow down the arms race, i believe. okw needs more than just that, but its a good starting point i think. With this change okw absolutely needs a panzer 4 and a raketenwerfer buff Giving all tanks a fuel upkeep sounds like a good idea. maybe 7-10 for a medium and 15-20 for a heavy. Having 2 heavies at once should either be impossible or cripple your economy. it seems that half your popcap in heavies doesn't cripple your army, so it must be detrimental some other way I personally love the game up until the latter ends of mid game. Micro intensive infantry battles, and then inf/lights, and then throw in a medium tank(s) and it's great. It's not too hard to push off a medium, let alone kill it. The problem comes when certain vehicle are doing 240/320 damage and have more than 1000 hp as compared to all the "little" guys with160dmg/640hp. True enough, they are expensive and should be good, but heavies have almost no drawbacks. It currently makes more sense to have two heavies than three/four mediums. Something should be done to alter that to make mediums more effective and heavies less so. Something as simple as speed could do wonders on that account, pehaps, im no pro,im brainstorming. improve all mediums speed by ~15-25%(lights increase too of course) and nerf heavies by about the same. It just never makes sense to not use heavies, which isnt the only core issue with the game, but it's certainly amongst the biggest issues (pun intended). I dont think changing all teching to linear will screw over any faction or benefit one above the others, and if so it can be balanced better. Changes will be needed by all to make it work though. It will certainly lengthen early and mid game and hopefully give plenty of time for light vehicle fights and medium tank fights before heavies arrive. Personally i think tigers shouldn't be able to be fielded until the ~25 minute mark at the earliest with KT's further back. (basically make tiger available when the KT is now without caches/supply drops/whatever). In: COH2 Gameplay |
