The thing about Vet 1 is that upgrade grenadiers are basically the end game for Ostheer because they are good at attacking once they get vet and mg's and can decrew pak guns. So even if I skip them, I always backtech to tier 1 for this reason.
In 1v1, if I skip tier 1, I always get ostruppen. I find pioneers to be a waste of money if you get more than 2 in the entire game and 1 the early game. They don't fight anything well even when garrisoned and scale badly into the late game. I don't like assault grenadiers simply because they are so expensive to reinforce and not that good at attacking. They don't fight well at long-range and if you are assaulting, losing 1 when advancing is already too expensive for my liking.
Ostruppen are great because they can fight at an advantage anytime they are garrisoned or in heavy cover. They can beat or at least go toe to toe with every other early infrantry squad in the game. If you get 3 right at the start you usually surprise the crap out of people because you will have way more of the map than they expect and because people don't understand how cheap it is to reinforce ostruppen. I will gladly trade models of ostruppen for models of any of their units always. People always end up rushing and losing lots of manpower to decrew machine guns or pak guns which i easily recrew with ostruppen and reinfroce cheaply.
By the mid to late game however, ostruppen lose some value because while they are great at holding ground, they suck at attacking especially when there is no cover availalbe to give them their bonuses. I end up using ostruppen to hold my flanks and to support my paks (to recrew them) while i flank and attack with grenadiers instead. Almost every ostheer end-game is basically a fight of your vehicles versus theirs while fighting to decrew their paks. Grenadiers with lmg's are simply great at this and scale best as offensive units into the late game. |
The microstutter is the most frustrating thing. By mid-game you are trying to be all over the map doing flanks and multitasking, and a lot of clicks don't register because the game has frozen. So many squads end up dying to stray nades because you hit move but it doesn't register. Add to that the rather abysmal lag and unit response times that can occur in a lot of games and this game can be immensely frustrating.

This game is a joke of RNG anyways and they have not changed it in 2 years now. Relic just wants to cash in and doesn't care if this game is fun or rewarding. Sorry. |
Well, when i see these pros/cons of coh2, i notice that a lot of pros are "simple" things that probably can be implemented in vCoh easily. Oh man, i would leave coh2 for vCoh if they add things like CoH2 UI, reverse option, vaulting, no maphack/drophack system like CoH2 and fresh playerbase, and small(!) touch of balance... Hell i would pay full price for that.
Other than vaulting, you're smoking crack. The COH2 UI is so incredibly bad vs the original, reversing is a joke now and vehicles dance like they are having an epileptic seizure when you use reverse when in vCOH it was easy just to shift click back up.
The only problem is a lot of the player base left as is evidenced by most of the top vCOH players leaving and then coming back recently to dominate the COH2 tournament. I want COH2 to be a successful game because the genre is great but god it's such a hollow shell vs vCOH. |
Game has always been basically a beta. No remappable keys, nonsensical changes like having to use "U" on the other side of the keyboard to retreat instead of just shift clicking back rapidly like in COH1, terrible unit response times combined with shitty design in the game that makes units follow their leader which adds to more response times, randomly resetting graphics settings. The list goes on and on and on and on. |
I saw this a doctrine a lot during the OCF tournament yet it is still unavailable for purchase. If this game is going to be an esport how come one of the best commanders is not available? And it's a joke that it was available as a promotion valentine day's weekend when most people with lives are busy with something else. How can this game become an esport when arbritary stuff like limited access to commanders exists?

^ This. Flame half tracks completely destroy maxims. Snipers aren't great because the squads are so huge. The perfect counter is probably one of the ostruppen doctrines combined with a rush to flame half tracks. The biggest swing comes from decrewing a maxim and then capturing it with cheap ostruppen which cost like 10-15 manpower to reinforce.
Once the halftrack is upgraded, make a big multiprong attack and you are almost certain to capture at least one maxim. |
I have a 290 overclocked under water and an i5 2500k at 4.9 ghz. 1080p and textures on high and graphics on medium. Everything else turned off or lowest possible. I get about 110-115 when the game starts and then once there are like 4-5 units, it dips to 30-45 or just outright freezes.
This game is coded so badly it's fucking disgusting. It's virtually unplayable at a high level by the end-game and the other guy can easily just blob and a-move into me because its impossible to micro under such conditions. |
1v1 is the same way. Flanking and cover isn't as rewarded as in COH1. Blobbing above all else wins. In COH1, I would anticipate flanks and focus my volks. In this game, the other guy moves forward with his huge blob and overwhelms me anyways. Part of this is because fine unit control isn't there and units will always move to pre-designed positions as well.
So it's harder to micro and micro is less rewarded. A+++ game design relic. |
Well I just used this ability and it literally did jackshit. Waste of 300 munitions. I stuka'd the cutoff point and then did the ability. It had 2 barrages which all missed. 3 tanks just sat there and took nothing. All units were in cut-off territory. No units were even moved.
Don't know if the ability was patched but its literally fucking useless for all the munitions I saved up for it. I want my fucking money back. |
