RNG is ok in doses. Poker boomed for a few years and then went back to its previous levels because it's not that fun of a spectator sport and doesn't require that much skill.
Having a poorly optimized game and then 1-shot wipe abilities prevalent is no fun. Over half of my games get to over 1 second response times by mid to late game. Then my enemy uses shit like satchels on me and even though I degarrison in time the latency ensures the squad gets wiped. That's not fun, that's retarded.
COH1 had these problems too with the fact that they left strafe in such an overpowered state for so long. Free insta-wipes. COH2 doesn't have a strafe-like ability as much anymore, but it does have way worse optimization. I was able to upgrade my computer to play COH1 with good settings and the latency was enver that bad even in games across the pond with European players who make up most of the player base.
COH2 runs like pudding on all computers. I hope that COH2 esports fails just so they can admit defeat and move on to the next game. THere should have been a DOW3 by now and after which they make a COH sequel with a proper engine and network code. |
Nothing will change. They made a big push for this december to patch the game for ESL and after a few months of terrible ESL viewership they will cancel the membership. Simply too little too late. You can't launch something major like ESports literally 3 years after a game launches.
Still a shit ton of performance/latency issues too. |
They will try it for a while and then stop because it won't get enough of an audience. RTS is already a niche game and SC2 the king of RTS is probably not going to last more than 2 years at the rate it's losing viewers. MOBA and FPS dominate esports.
And truth be told this game is just really not well supported enough for esports. It took them 2 years to remove terrible things like deep snow from the game. The best time for them to have launched the game was at COH2's game release when there were a lot of eyes on the game. There are a host of other issues too. The last patch did some good but it came out 3 years after the game was released.
I wouldn't get too invested in COH2. It'll go away because viewership is too low. We'll leave it up to AmiPolizei to have his yearly tournament and enjoy that for a while at least. |
It's not just rifle vets that are op, it's the fact that they get flamers which can crit everything.
There's a reason the commander was banned for OCF, yet Relic saw this and did nothing to balance them ... |
Seriously, when you have almost 1 second input lag built into this game anyways from bad code, why do you still matchmake with people halfway around the world. I'm talking about 1v1 mainly as 2v2 and 3v3 and the like would be harder to do.
Seriously ... |
Balance is still a mixed bag as always if not bad. Flamers for USF is slightly ovepowered. Brits are recently balanced so they are ok. Ostheer is underpowered because grenadiers are too weak and map balance is dependent on whether or not they have good mg coverage. You can go ostheer at least. OKW is bad simply from a design point. Depending on trucks and their resource tax is something that can't really be balanced well given the huge diversity of maps.
1v1 is in a better place than it was last month but the overall state of the game is not in a great place with the optimization issues and the design issues the game has had since launch. |
For one it can't be like a panther because it has almost no penetration anyways. As for beating 2 squads, that's RNG, not the aura. It ain't called Company of RNG for nothing. |
It doesn't make any sense at all that S mines have a sign or that you lay 4 of them and have to practice cancelling it when you only want one mine.
Literally none whatsoever. |
Just played a game where input lag was literally 1 second within the first 3 squads.
*sigh* Relic just doesn't even play it's own game. They release patches that are 2 steps backwards and 1 step forward.
Whatever, this has been par for the course their entire history with COH. ***** them. |
This game just has a shit ton of game design flaws from its launch days. The developers focused more on adding new stuff just to add new stuff without any consideration whether it actually made the game interactive and fun. Deep Snow, the squishing of the UI into something entirely inferior to COH1, all the squad wipes EVEN IN HEAVY cover, the abandoned units, squad members having to wait for their squad leaders to move before moving themselves.
All of it sucks donkey balls and is deeply noninteractive and devalues skill. Some RNG is ok. COH 1 had this in a varying amoutn but not as bad as COH2.
Fundamentally they put in adding stuff just to be different without actually justifying whether it would be fun or improve the game in a meaningful way which is why the had to revert deep snow and decrease the rng. Even in its current state its too much. |
