There are a lot of things we can complain about regarding the Soviets, but I wouldn't say that this is really one of them. These buildings are static and can't be repaired.
As Ost, take Spearhead and use the MHT with the flame strike, and you still get Tiger + Panzer Smoke + Recon + Fragmentation Bombs.
OKW might be a little more difficult to beat the FHQ with, but same principle, use arty (Stuka, LeIG) to bomb the buildings until they are dead.
They won't have heavy tanks, so even if they have the fuel for a lot longer than you do, the worst thing for you that they can build at that point is T4. |
The only unit that has stood out to me as broken/OP for the Soviets is the IS-2. They're just too tough, especially when there's more than one on the field. |
Don't forget that those fuel planes fly over your opponents base before they get to you, which means that a smart OKW will put their T4 building on that flight path and then the entire doctrine is kinda useless.
The Sherman has a stupid rate of fire but it's not as durable as an IS-2 or ISU-152, which you often need to deal with hard hitting Axis AT. And, of course, shocks/guards better for Sov than DSHK.
I still think it can be really deadly if played properly though. Just kind of unforgiving. |
Well, yes, the maps favor different factions, but that's more of an effect than a cause. The cause is the difference in the faction design, because Allies seem to be more geared towards early game (particularly USF) and the Axis is more late game.
Doesn't mean that Allies are OP or Axis is UP by any means, it's just inherently bad faction design. |
Thats indeed intriguing and surprising.
Who actually uses USF nades?
This is a joke, right? Smoke grenades alone are worth it. So nice vs. MGs and even Obers. |
You guys should chill out a little bit, it couldn't be a super hard change to make, so why not? It could just be a button in the options menu. If you can run it without lag then cool, if not it's no big, just turn it off. Also, it was in the original Dawn of War if I remember correctly. |
Kharkov bad for ostheer? Lol wut.
I do agree that this match up depends mostly on the map more than anything else.
Kharkov is bad because of the forward cutoff on the fuel. Ost lives and dies by its late game with Tigers/Panthers, so you have to have fuel. The problem lies in the fact that Ost early game vs. USF early game is quite a struggle for the Ost player and they're (generally) forced to play extremely defensively, unless the USF player is really bad.
What I'm trying to say here is, good luck making any kind of offensive push against USF as Ostheer until mid/late game, without conceding a bunch of other territory. |
Winter maps with contested fuel or top location on Semois -> Good luck trying to win, Ost player. Only thing that can even the playing field a bit is the sniper but the problem is that it's extremely risky, and if you lose it the game is pretty much over. If he goes M20 and you have nothing to counter it, you're screwed. |
Vet 1 is so easy for B-4 to obtain, just force a retreat on an OKW player and barrage his medic truck, even if it doesn't score a direct hit the AoE is stupidly big you're bound to kill a couple models or a squad. Then once you get Precision Strike, just use it on a stationary tank and bam, Vet 3.
You shouldn't be forced to pick a commander to counter a single unit, like going Elefant or Jagdtiger just to counter the ISU. Saying "pick a Stuka commander or you're screwed" is an extremely dull way to play the game.
As a general rule of thumb, the other team being forced to pick a doctrine just to counter a single unit is extremely indicative that it is overperforming. So, Jagd, ISU and B-4.

All I'm going to say is, when WFA came out it actually used to be pretty effective against USF as a harassing unit. When rifles were given homing AT nades, its effectiveness dropped significantly. The homing nades were necessary, but in the process it indirectly nerfed the 222. Yeah, you can stay at range to avoid getting AT naded, but its DPS is absolutely awful unless it is point blank. |
