I think that's been one of the consistent issues people have had with Company of Heroes 3 - that the combat has been clinical and sterile. Providing up-front information to the player is important, but when the combat capabilities of each unit are too reliable and too consistent then it removes the fun and nuance from encounters.
Well maybe maybe not. I see where you're coming from; In CoH 2, you might have to gamble a bit to get that squad wipe or finish off that tank. Should I stay or should I pull back? I might be able to bounce that shot, amd if I do I could get the kill, but if not I lose this tank and they keep theirs. Etc. These choices are a bit of gambling mixed in with the skill.
But games don't HAVE to have that RNG element to them. Chess, for example, doesn't have you roll dice to determine whether you capture a piece or not, you simply capture it. Maybe with unit interactions being more "clinical and sterile", it will be easier to balance. Just a thought.
I was going to admit that the "clinical and sterile" nature of chess has created a "meta" where most people play the same openings, but then I remembered that even in top level play, chess players do experiment with openings not considered the best. It's not like RNG somehow cured CoH 2 of this phenomena. |
I'm on 16gb of ram too. Odd. Though I haven't tried hosting, maybe that kills system memory.
Admittedly I play mostly 3v3 and 2v2 but 3v3 isn't quite as much of a shitfest as 4v4 which blew me out of the water. I threw in the towel for that mode the other day after getting dumpstered by a horde of jeeps and m8s. It was funny in that 4v4 kind of way but I don't have much time for that.
But I agree on the maps, there is quite a shortage. BGs otoh I'm a little apprehensive about them adding more because it's going to be fucked for a while while they wring out money from fotm players and then finally figure out how to balance them.
Technically it was actually VS AI on a custom map with that CoH 3 extended roster tuning pack mod. Who knows, maybe it was the map or maybe it was the tuning pack, all I know is that it just killed my will to play lmfao |
4v4 is definitely where it's at when determining balance, no doubt about it
The only thing coh3 has going for it is its okay 1v1 and 2v2 balance. Let's not forget, though, that the majority of the playerbase are not 1v1 and 2v2 players, and I can tell you that 4v4 may be unbalanced in coh2, but a whole fuckton less so than coh3.
I was trying to give coh 3 another chance the other day, hosting a custom match with a custom 4v4 map. 3 times I tried hosting, 3 times CoH3 maxed out my ram (16 GB) and crashed itself.
I'm just not motivated enough to try again right now. I don't even want to play coh2 to be honest. I'm looking forward to the Men Of War 2 test. Other than that, I'm playing the Sims 2.
More maps, more battlegroups are the only things that interest me right now. And ONE 4v4 map for a grand total of THREE possible maps to play on is not enough for me lmfao. |
Their armour (1.25) is auto-penned by LMGs (eg: BAR with 1.75 pen). Otherwise don't expect a starting availability, 260ish MP squad to beat a 2CP, 400MP squad, it just won't happen. With those costs, going even 2v1 isn't really surprising. Getting close range is also suicidal vet-for-vet as they are the deadliest CQC squad in COH history and rightfully so at that price tag for a BG-only unit.
I am honestly of the opinion that they were fine in their Day 1 iteration, esp given that the (~7 range) AT satchel would get cancelled if the target didn't stay in range for the entirety of the extremely lengthy throw animation, but Relic disagrees.
If we're going to have a CQC squad that's so retarded good at anti infantry that it can frontally decrew MGs, then I think it's more than fair that it shouldn't be able to go toe-to-toe with vehicles too.
Edit: To be fair, their snare was removed back before MGs were uberbuffed. Maybe now it's not so shrimple. |
Let me kindly remind you, again, that Relic has already said it's broken... And needs to be fixed. It's clearly not only 4v4 blobbers
I have yet to play a 4v4, I main USF, and I think the ASC is fucking retarded
Yeah it was fine for me before the patch. But we're talking about right now... And Kat trying to blame peoples PCs when Relic admitted they fucked up is pretty stupid
I played USF early on and last I remembered, the strafing run carries ASC. When I played you could never in a billion million years get off a bombing run because of all the flak emplacements, wirbelwinds, and other flak stuff.
Funnily enough, before they nerfed the flak emplacements, the double strafing run was actually one of the best counters to the little flak 36 emplacements if they were built near the edges of the map. Strafe 1 decrewed, strafe 2 destroyed the emplacement.
It comes insanely fast on the edges of the map, can't be shot at while outside of map boundaries, and shreds infantry.
Yeah, probably a good idea to adjust it. |
Glory for the P46 Strafing
by shinasukac
As cheap as a grenade, as fast as lightning, as devastating as artillery, and as strong as a warship,
Oh! When you fly above, every tank commander points to you, in awe and respect~
Oh! When you strafe by, every infantryman hits the ground, to kiss your toes~
Oh! You are hard like diamond~ none may take you down~
Oh! Everyone wants to have you~
You are the Goddess of Victory, the King of War, Queen of the Skies, the Blot from Heaven~
No mortal hands hold the power to create you, you were formed by the gods themselves, you are unmatched in your gloriousness~ |
do I have your permission to translate this to English? |
Very cool! Thank you! |
Who said anything about your posts making people feel bad? You're absolutely entitled to your opinion but as KoRneY says, it's just a bit weird to keep repeating the same points about a game you hate, that you haven't spent money on and that you don't play.
That's really not a knock on Vermillion here. Good on him for waiting out the hype. I've yet to see a player of gamemodes above 2v2 give the game a glowing review. Is it alright for me to "hate" on the game just because I bought it or something? Plenty of the game's issues are glaringly apparent even while watching someone else's gameplay.
Hardly think it's weird at all. |
Is this the sunset for CoH2.org? Are these the twilight hours while the wick burns down to the base of the candle? Fighting for air with the hot wax that's closing in on all sides?
Is it too late to rebrand the site? Lmfao. |
