I was looking for a decent 1v1 match to try my hand at casting for the first time and thought this one was pretty enjoyable and educational.

G'day, g'day, g'day!

I've decided to have a go at doing some shoutcasting for COH2, with an attempt at some 'Aussie flavour'.

I'll generally try to find games that haven't already been casted, but if I happen to get at one first, I have absolutely no objection to someone else casting the match as well. Different perspectives are invaluable

Yeah, Windows 8 has a lot of UI decisions that I find infuriatingly unusable, but the underlying OS is a nicely refined version of Windows 7. With Classic Shell installed, I find 8.1 quite reasonable. Still think it looks ugly compared to Aero though.

It is certainly tricky and I don't like fighting it. Airborne is the best commander but lacks an arty ability to take out a Pak 43. Scotts will get one-shotted, so they're out. That leaves choosing a weaker Rifle or Infantry commander for effective artillery. Alternatively, you can get a pack howitzer and try to barrage it. Given their current ridiculous hitbox size though, even they may be vulnerable. I'm not sure.

Outside of that, flanking is your best friend against its narrow field of fire and slow set-up time. Always keeps your tanks separate when attacking. If you can close in with one you stand a good chance of at least taking out its crew.

I don't agree with your recommendation of 12GB to play the game at higher settings. I play at max, with 8GB of RAM, and have never ran into any problems.

I was almost filling it up in my initial tests today. It depends on a lot of factors, such as your version of Windows, background programs, and how much bad luck you get with memory leaks. 8GB should usually do the job, but if people want to play it safe then going one stick further is probably a good idea since RAM tends to be quite affordable.

Nvidia might be more energy-efficient, but Amd is a much better bang for your buck

Microsoft security essentials is not good, as far as i remember the tests

I had so many bizarre problems with my AMD 5850 that I've never looked back since upgrading to a modern Nvidia card Electricity is also expensive in this part of the world. That said, AMD's recent cards did cause Nvidia to drop their prices. I leave it up to the readers to check out available online resources and decide what card is best for them I mainly just want to make sure they don't overlook the critical VRAM issue.

Cheers for the heads up about MSE. Last I heard people thought it was quite good, but you're right. Tests seem to show that it went completely downhill. I've removed it from the list.

If you have an AMD, you have a bottleneck. CoH2 is very cpu intensive.

Thanks for that link. That's very interesting. I'll have to look into it. I have a fairly powerful (although old) Core i7, so I've never been forced to investigate CPU as a bottleneck. In fact, I find that I have a substantial amount of CPU room left to encode video through OBS while I play.
