I really liked that the chat was visible in replays in COH1 and have been disappointed by its absence in COH2. I have a couple of reasons why I would like to see chat visible in replays:

1) It gives replays more personality. Even just seeing two players say "gl hf" at the start of a match adds a lot for me. The lack of player banter makes replays feel sterile to me.

2) I have seen cases where it was unclear which player won and which lost at the end of a game because the "gg" was not visible in the replay.

3) It could cut down on the amount of verbal abuse that players toss around in-game. There are a lot of players who verbally abuse other players or constantly whine throughout games. If players knew that their obnoxious behavior was going to be preserved and that they would develop bad reputations, they might be less inclined to act like brats.

Is there any chance that this will get added in the future?

I found curious why they took out this "feature".

Permanently Banned
Is that information stored in the replay and not rendered? If so, perhaps someone can write a 3rd party tool?

+1 and also very good reasons why.

I liked it in CoH1 when you could see the chat, mostly because it gives personality to a replay. Who doesn't want to see what Barton is writing? ;) A lot of replays in CoH1 gave me a good laugh with epic comments before the end of the game.

+1 omg this is something I was going to ask the devs for. You can't imagine how comic some replys are with the chat included.

It's less that they took it out and more that they didn't build it.

There's also some level of privacy concern, and a need to not spread toxic behavior. While there is no reason for anyone to assume privacy playing a video game and chatting, it's not like everyone needs to hear what you discuss over the course of a 30min+ match. Can you remember everything you said after 30min?

Yeah, would be nice to have that both for the character of the replays and casting and for easier reporting of dickheads.

Yes,but equally,it is less than amusing when some odd fellow spams rubbish across the screen, in an unfair attempt to disrupt a player in a tournament. And it hardly encourages novices to carry on,when some half-arsed retard starts a sledging campaign, which is(IMO) often less than amusing.

If Relic gave the ability for a player to turn off the chat onscreen, I would support its return.

You raise a good point. It goes without saying that players should be able to set themselves on "busy" so that they receive no chats or msgs if they choose. That was always a huge shortcoming of tournaments on COH1... players getting spammed by random idiots and not being able to do anything about it.
