SU-76 Rework

It's a stop gap unit that can scale via barrage. It's fine as is. Some units shine in a time period and then fall off, as long as they retain some usefulness after their golden age it's fine. Soviet t3 is full of units that you may get for one job and then when that's no longer feasible can do support. The T70 can cap and scout, the m5 can upgrade for AA And flank control and the su76 can bombard areas and help v tanks. It's a multirole assault gun, it can't be spectacular at any given task, a d especially not at its price point.

I really liked the dual-role MHT/TD design it used to have, but I understand why they changed it.

It's a functional unit in its current state, like a little StuG.

Not a fan of the penetration nerf since when a Panther appears the su76 becomes redundant. A vet 3 penetration buff would be welcome.
not a fun of light vehicle as MGS becomes redundant, a buff to pen and damage would be welcome :snfPeter::luvDerp::luvDerp::luvCarrot:

Just told me in which part of game su-76 have it's own place? It was build when penals don't have PTRS, but now role of su-76 as weapon against light and medium fully overlapped by PTRS and zis. You don't need su-76 anymore.
when u are a bit behind and know a medium tank is coming, as the su 76 heavily counter medium tanks

At the time, the barrage was free, so you could use them to lump 12 HE rounds into a squad in a tiny time window.

The MU cost on the barrage killed SU-76 spam dead in one stroke.
i remember the video of the su 76 defeating an elephant with equal cost on fuel

That’s completely different though. My point is that a su76 that vetted up the whole game should be able to scale a bit better vs late game vehicles to remain relevant.

Absolutely it can. It has one of the very best support abilities as vet 1 that can do anything from stun to force team weapons to pack up and also gets panzer tac smoke.

My suggestions:
1) Instead of selfspotting ability, add stealth, with increased penetration and damage for 1-st shot. All ligt TD historically acted from ambush, because light armor don't give enough protection in head-to-head fight.

That would be a big improvement and make it a lot more viable.

Exactly, the zis makes the su76 redundant.

An SU-76 can’t be killed by a Grenadier riflegrenade shot like a Zis Gun, or suppressed by an MG42, or wiped by a flanking PanzerGrenadier squad.

SU-76 has a definitively different set of pros and cons when compared to a Zis Gun.

Not to mention plenty of people go Tier 1 instead of Tier 2.

SU-76 can get crit engine from 1-st faust, MG-42 could use AP rounds to kill or seriously damage it. With crippled damage...it's almost dead unit due to it's low health, armor and pathnig.
Only one real pros from su-76 - you can't steal it. I never saw abandoned su-76.
But cons - low penetration than zis, low damage than zis, it will delay you t4 from terms of fuel (you need 75 to su-76 and 90 fuel to t4, i think choice will be very distinct and clear for su player), it have worse scaling with veterancy than zis. Zis also have the same abilities and range as su-76. Zis don't die from 1 tellermine.

In which situation you will be build su-76, not zis? Zis cost more MP, but give you much more potent AT power than SU-76. And if SU-76 have real pros players will build them. But now it's like old ostwind. You could saw one, when Mars in House of Orion.

I see only 2 ways for su-76:
1) It still in T3, but get buffed and cost increased to prevent spamming. It must become viable AT option, selfspotting and barrage must be removed, to don't get overlapping with zis.
2) Move it to T4 with completely different role - light howitzer.

IMHO i prefer 2-nd way. Because 1 clear role better than 2 roles. With all current 2 roles (light AT and light AI) you always have zis, but much cheaper and much stronger.
We also could evolving su-76 to low health version of stug-e. But i think it will be more cancerious option than everything else.

in warthunder the gun has horizontal guildance +/- 15°
but in this game it seem like it were solid weld to the tank chassis.

I think main reason why SU-76 become so unpopular it's barrage. In old times it was free. That have roots in original SU design - where units initially had all-around possibilities (comparsion to OST where units have only one main role). But in every game cheap units that have 2 different roles means only one - they good in masses (spam). I think everyone remembered old spam of SU-76. Hordes of cheap light TD with free barrage, that ruined OST team weapons and infantry and also could kill any p4 or panther. It was just bad soviet design decision. All soviet units were initially designed to be spammable. When you removed such key from them to sake of balance and gameplay - they in this moment become dead and unpopular units.
If we could give to SU-76 one main role this resolve problem with their low popularity. It could become light howitzer in T4 or decent AT option in T3.

it will still counter medium tanks and TD, and BTW do medium become irrelevant late game ? i mean they have less pen than su 76

Currently if you are behind you get a Zis or 2 and weather the storm till your call in heavy hits. It will be interesting to see if players start using the SU-76 once that option is taken away.
