Mirror Match

It's impossible to say if mirror matches are good or not because without reference to actual gameplay all we're doing is throwing around unfounded opinions. And since we can't discuss specifics of gameplay here, there's no debate to be had.
I'm worried that people who support it are doing the exact same thing.
For instance, can anyone tell me with a straight face that mirrors would have worked in the vCoH US vs US matchup?
Mirrors aren't inherently good for gameplay or competition if the faction simply can't handle it.
THIS. We should be looking forward to COH2 as it will have unique factions enough for mirror-matchups not to exist. IF mirrors fits better in COH2 then COH1 means the sequel is stepping backwards in gameplay quality..., aka factions are too repetitive.
We always were talking about how fantastic US - WHER metagame was...., how those 2 very different factions are made to perfectly counter each other in a same time having completely different units. Having a thoad that COH2 will be OK for mirror matchups basically kills the CORE why COH1 was so sucesfull.
E-sports = mirror machups???? I don't think so. MIRRORS kill games: it is boring to watch, boring to play, historically incorrect.
We have to remember why COH1 is so unique between all those other RTS games so for ever and ever my vote is NO FOR MIRROR MACHUPS!

By the way were there any comments from Relic about mirrors? Lynx?
There's an interview over on RelicNews stating that there are no plans to have mirror matches in automatch, but they may enable them for basic matches.

I guess the wording isn't quite as clear as I had remembered. Here is the relevant bit.
In a very surprising development as stands it’s actually possible to play as both German and Soviet on both sides of a team game, allowing German & Soviet vs Soviet and German teams. This was an option missing from the original presumably for authenticity reasons and when questioned if this would remain in the retail game I was told that it was possible, but potentially only as a feature of non-ranked custom games. It’s still up in the air, but apparently as stands will be part of the upcoming beta test for the game.

Well frankly his grammar needs alot of work, as does his interview technique. Although as its undecided at this stage we seem to agree on that point.

^^ True dat. CoH 1 was amazing but not very realistic. Yet the argument of realism is being brought up so many times here... I don't care much about realism so long as the gameplay is good.
Take care not to inadvertently straw man here. Most of the people who are opposed to mirror matches are not really making a realism argument. For the most part it's an "it would be boring/would cause balance issues" argument. I happen to think that the inclusion of mirror matches might end up being worse for competitive play by severely cutting down on the number of people spectating events.
