A thought on Cavalry Riflemen.

The counter to short-range infantry is, in almost all cases, vehicles. If they get in close they'll outgun your infantry, so you use a light vehicle to drive them back.

To faciliate this, almost every CQC unit in the game has no snare. The exception is Cavalry Riflemen, which get AT satchels.

Is that compensated for by their Riflemen-level durability, or is strong CQC power and the power to zone their traditional counter (demanding the constant attention of the opponent to micro the LV away from them) too much?

I don't know myself.

Light vehicles are not the only counter to CQC infantry, there are Mgs, mines, anti infantry units and etc.
I know that WC51 + Cav Rifleman is very strong, if not OP. But CavRifleman alone itself is very fragile and bleed very much.
And cmon, satchel range is very low, you have to be BrainAFk to let they close in and throw it :luvDerp:

If you're microing the LV, sure.

But all the time you're microing the LV away from the Cav Rifles, it needs your constant attention.

Against Shocks, you're safe looking away to issue some orders to another engagement.

Calvary Rifles fill in for a regular Riflemen in your build and they by default have longer range snares so it's not much more micro taxing in that regard. As a type of Riflemen you can argue they should have snare and that it fits thematically as a close-range specialist. Do they really need the satchel to be an effective unit? Not really, but I think the only reason you would need to remove the satchel was if their AI power was so oppressive that they were more of a AI specialist instead of a generalist unit which I don't think is the case. (though they are built primarily for AI I would say)

Cav Riflemen already have the problem that they are pretty meh outside of a Jeep or Half track. So they need some sort of additional utility. Maybe a normal satchel instead of an AT satchel to deal with bunkers and OKW trucks faster?

But then it might be too OP with the smoke nades on the other hand, they could just single-handedly take out an OKW schwerer Panzer HQ or a bunker

I think a large problem with cavs is that BAR rifles just kinda do everything. They're CQC oriented, but also perform very well at max range. Doesn't really leave room for much else when you can just buy more rifles. On top of that 2 thompsons and 3 grease guns are pretty underwhelming in comparison to 2x BARs or rangers/paras 4x thompsons. Yeah they're cheesey as hell in the WC51, but I think that's more of a truck issue than anything.

You can get 2 Thompson and 1 BARs on Cav Riflemen and their mid DPS is quite good.

I dont really know why they got satchels in the first place. It´s like the WC51 getting mark target and off map arty for some unknown reason.

Cav Rifles would be good enough even without the satchel. Just as the WC51 is good enough(actually too good) without the mark target and call in arty.

Sure, you just have to give up 6th man, nades and sprint.
Deal?

Idk I definitely see where you are coming from, but without it they are 1cp assault infantry with smoke without it. They are nothing really special.

Agrens would only have to give up ONE of those abilities since losing satchel doesn't impact AI performance of cav rifle. Meanwhile Cav rifles also have 3 abilities" thompson, smoke and satchel. thompson = 6th man since thompson cav rifles basically hardcounter 5man agrens.

I think even a normal satchel as aerafield suggested for the cav rifles would be better. It's not fair that a CQC squad should also be able to at least threaten light vehicles.
