Ostheer TD range is unfairly ridiculous.
Talking about stock TD units:
US:
Jackson: 60 Range
Soviet:
SU85: 60 Range
SU76: 60 Range
OKW:
Jagdpanzer IV: 60 Range
Panther: 50 Range
Ostheer:
StuG III: 50 Range
Panther: 50 Range
As if soviet SU85 can sight as far as 60 range for itself, SU76 track target also give sight;
Ostheer Tanks always will get hit first before it gets in range.
If StuG III remains 50 range for its price and tech, fine. But panther is locked at ridiculously expensive T4 with a price tag of 185 fuel. It should be brought in line with other dedicated TD.

Elefant is for su-85 exactly what su-85 is for stug. More range but less mobility. If elefant was useless in team games then su-85 would have to be useless in 1v1s. Except they are not.

Stug and SU-85 have pretty much the same mobility.
Maybe mobility is the wrong word. I ment that with equivalent resources, you get more tanks so it's easier to do coordinated attacks and flanks. Also, if you don't count t-70 into the cost then one su-85 might need to use spotting ability to even use its range advantage, which greatly affects mobility.

These are not "counterparts" ever since 2014. Are you sure you are playing the current version of a game?
The closest axis unit to su-85 is JP-4. The closest allied unit to stug is su-76.
As for heavy armour, they are completely different. Elefant is a hard counter to armour. ISU is a counter for infantry. They have nothing in common other than range and cost.

Mirror balancing is bad imo.
I think StuG should remain at 50 range but compensate with better frontal armor. Currently the armor is so weak that even at vet 2 it is hard to bounce shots with the StuG even when regular mediums shoot at it.
Also the Jackson is currently at 55 range iirc.

Go look up the Panther's armour, hit points and anti-infantry performance.
Then compare those to the 60 range tank destroyers.

And you concluded this based on the fact that is almost half as cheap? Or did you base it on the fact that it is in T3 instead of T4? Or on the fact that almost all of its stats (less HP, less penetration, less range, less DPS) are T3-ish while the SU-85's are T4?
The Stug is a T3 cheap intermediate tank destroyer that is meant to fight Allied light vehicles and does a good enough job against their mediums. Ostheer has the Panther for heavy anti-tank. Soviets have the SU-85 as the end tier heavy tank destroyer that is meant to fight mediums and heavies. The Stug is comparable to the SU-76, not the SU-85.
