Bren Gun

Does anyone know if Commandos still get an elite version and whether its stats have been changed at all? I noticed that they also only pay 45 munitions when picking up the Bren.
Thanks!

You shouldn't upgrade brens on commandos as it largely decreases their close range DPS and they are a CQB unit. You'll get a DPS buff at mid and long range but it's rather pointless as they will still trade worse than vet lmg grens.

The bren gun was nerfed itself, so any unit picking it up will have a weaker weapon from pre-patch.
In the patch notes it only shows the nerf in mid and far accuracy for the Tommie version. Commandos (used to) get a more accurate version when they pick it up.

The Infantry Section Bren has a DPS of 6.8 at max range while the Commando Bren has a DPS of 12 at max range.

So they essentially got a direct price buff then. And 2 of those is like 2 LMG42's!

Yes but as said before it hurts their CQC DPS a lot. Also if want to use the Brens effectively you need to shoot at long distance. Which will make the 3 remaining sten smgs useless. So I don´t really know if Brens on Commandos are all that amazing. If you have lots of muni you can get them but if not probably better to invest your muni somewhere elese.
Grenadier Kar 98 + LMG 42 has way better synergy because both are good at long range combat.

IIRC they actually do provide a slight dps boost on commandos at close range because their version of the bren is all around much better than the normal version. Responsiveness does go down a bit as the bren guys will lie down and turn around and stuff, and moving dps probably goes down despite them being able to fire the brens on the move.

So since the new patch Tommies and Sappers have access to a weaker but cheaper Bren gun from the weapon racks.

The Commando Bren is unchanged save for being cheaper. It's very powerful and can fire on the move. Just remember that Bren Commandos aren't CQC units any more: use them as ranged combat infantry rather than point blank ambushers.

Too bad that Sten SMGs deal 0 damage at range...

Too bad that commandos with double Bren at range 35 have close to DPS that Obers have with an LMG for about the same mu cost.

So? They cost more MP and Muni to get there and still lose hard once Obers are vetted up.

Ober have tech cost and cost 340/80
Commando cost 360/90 (double bar) or come with other bonuses like onfield deployment and reinforcement point. They come with free camo, while they are 5 men. The extra member, no tech, smoke grenade and camo justify the difference in cost.
Commandos do not lose hard to obers, all they have to do is ambush them with grenade.
And I am simply responding to your claim that Commandos are at disadvantage because their stens do not have DPS Far. Commandos with double brens have lots of DPS far (and at all ranges).
So I am not sure what you are complaining when it comes to commandos.

Commando bren stats weren't touched by the latest patch.
Commando brens are insanely strong.
Commandos with double brens are insanely strong at max range because they have, as vipper pointed out, similar dps to obers even considering the fact that the stens basically do nothing at that range.
To that end, commandos with brens have similar dps to obers at max, but the commandos lose dps slower with model loss than obers do.
Vet bonuses are generally in obers' favor. Good to note though that commandos get the ambush bonus with vet.
Commandos with brens are pretty nicely priced compared to other similarly performing infantry. Vipper already compared them to obers, but you can also compare them to double lmg paras, which perform worse than commandos. 380 mp (if im not mistaken) and 120 muni for a squad thats less durable than commandos (6 models at target size 1.0) and drops DPS quicker.

It's not a question of "are commandos with brens worth it," it's a question of "are commandos with brens worth it over regular commandos?"
UKF generally has a bunch of long range lmg infantry squads on the field. Why do you want ANOTHER long range infantry squad? Vanilla commandos give you the short range squad you're missing, and the wipe + ambush potential thats also needed, so why spend 90 muni to turn all of that into what your current build already has. You would be spending muni to turn a high performing, deadly short range squad that offers a lot of what you're missing, into another high performing, deadly long range squad.
A smaller reason is that it makes their damage profile really awkward. Their mid distance DPS becomes meh, and their short DPS, while good, drops quickly with models. Also, at that point of the game most squads have good short range dps and will be able to take them at short range then.
