PIV nono.

STUGS!

Arcs of fire covering main assault routes with a Stug on the diagonal for rear hits.
Supported by Grens or PGrens as spotters for range and Faust/Shrek if necessary.

Lets push the Stug to its limit, using everything Commanders have to offer!

Yes, and slightly higher penetration as well.

StuGs biggest adventage propably were their low profile, making them hard to spot and hit.

Maybe StuGs do need some sort of "hull-down-and-cloak" ability.

Not a hard cloak like Infantry can get but something that allows them to stay hidden if enemy TDs spot into the fog with their scopes.

Make it happen guys!

Especially with creative Commander use.

Consider skipping either T1 or T2 to get Stugs out and on the field with necessary support!

The problem with stugs
They're too slow, they don't deal enough damage, they die too quickly even from frontal armour, they have bad range, and they cost too much

I reckon if stugs cost 50-60 fuel they'd be pretty useful, but then they could be spammable, i don't know...

Stat-wise, Stugs have the same target size as T-70s, 14. So they are already kinda hard to hit... in theory, this makes them harder to hit. Especially while mobile. I think this is their way of simulating the low profile.

Your idea with the cloak is good, too.

Ok so latest patch they reduced stug's target size from 20 to 14. This is a 30% decrease in size. Thus, hopefully the su85 will have a harder time hitting the stug while at range. Let's see how this affects the metagame.

Read troglodyte's comments on the thread in the link below if you wanna know more about scatter/target sizes and accuracy. Scatter works in a cone, and the further away the target, the smaller part it fills in the cone. Thus Stug and su85 battles might play out differently than before.

Maybe a vet 2 stug will even beat a vanilla su85? Im definitely gonna try using stugs more, maybe in combination with either panzer tactitian or scopes.

I love stugs, and really hope they can make a comeback as a go-to AT unit that scales well with vet. I think stug/ostwind combo with scopes into late game elefant might work well on chokey maps like pripiyat?

Honestly, I don't think the smaller target size is going to make a difference when their gun range is so small. Really, this is only good as a cost-effective counter to T34 spam... and that's about it. Sure it can take out lighter vehicles too, but what tank can't? It's penetration is unreliable against heavies (kv8, is2, is152) and it's just so fragile. It blows against infantry and it's mg upgrade is useless. Its role is so niche and it sucks against just about anything that is heavier than a T34. This unit really needs some love here.

why is stug being compared to all kinds of late tanks?
ITs main enemy are Su76 and T34, both of which it beats hands down.
You are not supposed to attack Su85 with it, never mind heavy tanks.

The Stugs "problem" is that Pz4 is so outwordly OP while costing not much more. Oh and Ostwind as well.

Yup. If p4 went up in price and u see a t34 then u get a stug as the 34 will outnumber the p4 but not the stug

The problem is equally that the SU-85 is so much more popular than the SU-76 or T-34, and that the StuG poses no threat at all to a well managed SU-85, despite being more specialised to AV than a P-IV. The Ostwind's fine, I think.

Why are you not supposed to attack SU-85s with it?

StuG and SU should be very equal machines.
In fact the StuGs armour, profile and optics were quite a bit better than the SU's.

All in All the StuG was one of the most successful tank-killers of the entire war.

No other machine got so many kills during the war like the StuG.
The only "tank"Aces more successful than the StuG Aces were the Tiger Aces.

You say one just shouldnt be able to face a SU-85 with a StuG.
Why? Both were very similar machines- but for some reason we shouldnt be able to "compare" the StuGs performance to the SU's? And at the same time the SU-85 chews up everything that isnt an Elephant. ( And even those suffer like hell as the SU can do immense damage to it when they come in pairs . and they usually do )

This is a game and I dont expect total realism, but if one the ( some would argue THE ) most successful TankDestroyer of the entire war can just take on the weakest, most outdated Soviet Machines ( that Soviet players dont even bother to build to beginn with) , something is off.

And it's ok that the SU85 can take down all tanks? The StuG was an assault gun that evolved into a tank destroyer. Their roles and stats should be similar, although I think relic wants some asymmetry for the sake of game "flavor"... then again the is2 and the tiger feel exactly the same...
