Running CoH on high to max settings? Please share your specs
Posts: 117
CoH2 is the most demanding/poorly-optimized game that I own. I need a new GPU but no idea what to get.
If you could take a minute to reply I'd really appreciate it.
I read some reviews/benchmarks for CoH2 but they were outdated, they certainly won't include relevant info from the last few patches performance wise - Plus, some say CoH2 favors nvidia cards. I don't know about that.
So, let's ask the community themselves.
If you'd like to, please post:
1. Your PC specs.
Here are mine: CPU i5 3570k (stock 3.4ghz, OC up to 4.2ghz) + 240gb SSD + 16gb DDR3
2. Do you run the game at 1080p ? Medium? High? Highest settings?
3. Any issues? Can it handle 2v2/3v3/4v4?
I'd be really thankful for any helpful replies guys.
Cheers,
Nick

2. Everything on highest settings. 1080p
3. Flame artillery or smoke barrages bring my FPS down to about 10.
This is simply bullshit.
Do not try to optimize your PC to run CoH2. It's not possible because some hardware runs better and some worse for no reasons.
Take a game like Fallout 4 or Battlefield 4. If you can run these games, you have a good PC.
If you can run CoH2 smoothly, you're just a lucky guy.

Intel HD Graphics 4000
Intel i5 processor 3230@2.60Hz
30 ~ 50fps late game. I play with everything on lowest settings and no replay system.

The irony is that.... ME TOO !
Since I decided to take my PC with me when I was overseas a few months ago it has not been the same since... GPU is dead so I'm on intel HD 4000... haha ^^

Hey Stafkey,
Appreciate what you're saying. Tbh, only games I play are sc2, CoH1, CoH2. I probably won't be buying any new games (ooold schoool).
Eh, running CoH 2 smoothly = lucky guy? o.o
That is worrying.

Previously played on Radeon 7700HD without any issues, but on medium settings.
2v2 games.
Never really had any of these "poor optimization issues" people keep talking about except for a couple of random CTDs.

Everything max except aa to medium. 1200x 1920
Runs fine around 50-60fps mostly 60 dropping to high 40's when things get really messy
It also ran fine on my 570 but with low aa and textures turned down a notch

I have a GTX 560 TI. I have two of them but as we all know, the game does not support SLI
I mostly play 1s at medium settings at 1920 X 1200.
The game starts good but at the end when there is a lot of fire and smoke, it falls down to about 10-25 FPS. Not all the time, it depends on how much is going on.
I would tell you to buy a new AMD card because i never saw someone having problems with AMD on COH2.
I like NVIDIA better and i am thinking to upgrade with NVIDIA again but i am hesitating because of all this BS optimization. No one can guarantee me that if i buy a GTX 980 or 970 the game will run smoothly at max setting. Thank you for that RELIC, Great freaking Job
I also play only COH1 and 2. SC never got to me, i don't like the fantasy settings so much. I am old school too

Interestingly, I get 50-60 FPS if I watch a replay with the UI disabled.

I have the exact same specs as you OP but you forgot your GPU.

I didn't forget my GPU. It's dead ! Atm, I'm running my intel HD 4000 as a backup. I was using a gtx 660 ti, time to upgrade !
Ty for the heads-up about AMD cards. A lot of people/benchmarks say the same thing.

Ah, ok. R.I.P. 660 TI
Yeah, when COH2 was released i was so hyped. I thought that my 2 GTX 560 TI in SLi would eat it up and for breakfast, but then "the slap in my Face" came. No SLI you stupid MF and forget about your good NVIDIA Card too you sucker, GTF out and buy you an AMD Card you looser ( Voice of Relics graphics designer in my head).

Anything below that go AMD. I'm still running a 7970 from 2011 and like Katitof I don't have any understanding of what "poor optimization issues" are. I do get the gradual memory leak sometimes where you have to restart, but that's not really the same thing.

I5 6600K 3,9Ghz, GTX 980 Ti, maxed settings, replays and all-no problems for me, not even a stutter, sometimes slows down when "doomsday" off-map kind of abilities are used, other then that, smooth gameplay without any noticeable performance issues.

GTX 980 can handle 2 v 2 in COH2, but anything over can drop the frame rate to barely 30 FPS.

Its 980 TI And I don't really need anything bigger then 2v2, maybe I'll go for one YOLO test 4v4 game in the future to test it, but it should handle it smoothly, CoH2 is more CPU heavy then GPU heavy anyway.

GPU: MSI 980 Ti 6G Gaming (1279 MHz)
RAM: 32 GB DDR4
Storage: 512GB SSD (COH2 is installed on this one)
COH2 Settings: 1920*1080, ALL settings maxed out.
If you ignore random freezes caused by simulation lag (Battleservers falling back?), COH2 runs extremely smoothly. Anything above 2v2 (as said earlier in this thread) starts dropping the FPS.

Game is poorly optimized, i play on 2560 x 1440p, and not on all on max cuz the FPS on team games varies from 60 to 30.
If there is snow and late game artys will stay at 45-30.

This is an 3 years old RTS for gods sake...
I play Witcher 3 on 4k with more FPS than COH2 in a 4v4, and not on max settings. This is not good otimization IMO.
