Any COH2 veteran capable of critical thinking should know by now ITS NOT ABOUT MONEY but rather the flawed marketing strategy. This go way beyond just some disgruntled COH players and actual goes back 20 years to the former SEGA CEO, Tom Kalinske and how Sega of Japan executives forced him to leave.
SEGA have never recovered after that and now just a shadow of its former self. Tom Kalinske as a innovative visionary was to SEGA as Bill Gates was to Microsoft.

Seriously stop bad-mouthing COH2 fans that criticize the way Relic/SEGA monetize this game. Even the new SEGA CEO Haruki Satomi (son of Hajime Satomi), openly said SEGA/SAMMY Holdings marketing strategy failed and promised fans big change.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Sammy_Holdings

Whatever you believe the new SEGA CEO or not, there is no doubt that SEGA/SAMMY Holdings marketing strategy hasn't done much to earn consumer trust. That can't be debatable, its a fact and we got everything to back this up beyond any shadow of a doubt.
At very least read the comments from the SEGA CEO and get your head into the game what this is about before putting words into our mouth.
Personally, I would be happy paying a monthly subscription to play multiplayer but that marketing strategy won't work for COH2.

Now for aspiring eSport games, quality over quantity/new content.

Tom Kalinske: Sega's Been Doing It Wrong for The Past 20 Years!

To make a long story short, Tom Kalinske came close to secure a partnership with Sony. Sega of Japan said no. If the Japan executives had said yes, then the Playstation would never have existed and SEGA/Sony partnership would have become the primary console manufacturer. This epic marketing failure should speak for itself.

There is not one top10 eSport game that use full priced game + DLC whoring with questionable quality. It's either the freemium model/microtransactions, subscriptions or full priced games such as Starcraft with quality DLC expansions. To suggest that the current COH2 marketing strategy is going to work for eSport are just absurd.

Esport is an investment, not a golden goose by itself. If new eSport games such as COH2 can't draw in millions of new players then it's a bad investment. There is not a snowball chance in hell, Relic/SEGA can draw in millions of new COH players with the current marketing strategy. Relic's sister studio, Creative Assembly figured this out years ago and now use the WoT FTP model for their eSport game TW: Arena.

5 Marketing Tricks That League Of Legends Used To Build a Billion Dollar Business
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/5-marketing-tricks-league-legends-used-build-billion-dollar-butkus

Several big eSport games came from humble beginnings without a big marketing budget but they knew how to use "word-of-mouth" marketing that are very cost-effective if done right. It's unlikely SEGA/Relic have a big marketing budget for COH2 so if they are not able and willing to use word-of-mouth" marketing then COH2 eSport are RIP.

http://www.nielsen.com/us/en/insights/news/2013/under-the-influence-consumer-trust-in-advertising.html

Consumer trust and positive brand advocates are everything in "word-of-mouth" marketing. Games such as League of legends encourages you to play with your friends and this results in many players joining through word-of-mouth marketing.
A good FTP model, turn the consumer into the "salesman". League of Legends was one of the first games to show that word-of-mouth marketing + micro transactions can be the primary source of income for a game without sacrificing game quality.

With all the DLC currently in COH2, it's a logical next step to give a taste for free. No one that understand the eSport FTP model is saying that Relic/SEGA should give everything away for free. But there is no reason why one eastern front faction such as Ostheer can't be FTP + 2 week free trial for all Ostheer premium commanders. Then part of the core gameplay would be easily accessible and COH2 would lose its P2W reputation and draw new players in by word-of-mouth.

If the marketing team behind COH2 don't wake up, then new players are just going to start using https://www.g2a.com (resellers) or worse they will try to pirate the game. Also, trolling new players with RNG war spoils only does more harm than good to COH2s online reputation.

The USF commander looks really, really potent. Breakdown:

LMG upgrade saves Rack teaching costs and let Rifles A-move, aggressive Rifle play followed up by M5.

Recon sweep...goes with Caliope like peanut butter and jelly. Bye bye, ISGs.

Halftrack supported by LMG rifles and AT guns will give incredible field presence. Any Paks, Raks, or Volkswagen get nailed by the new strafe.

This commanders going to have incredible mid game pressure options, plus really solid lategame. I see try hard 1 vs 1meta being this, Armor Company, and Rifle.

It's not about money nor about supporting the company or not.

-First of all, this is a fullprice game. Not a F2P with a freemium model.
-It's too much to expect that in an RTS both players have access to equal tools to defeat each other and not because i've the competitive commanders i've an edge over my opponent?
-Charging for recycled things.
-Cost of DLC comparison to base game or factions. I'll could care less if the sum of cosmetics, shortcut bundles or singleplayer experience on an MP based game cost more, but not when, in this case, commanders, cost more than the game itself.

Thing is: how hard it to put everything on a bundle or season pass?

this.

as much as m1919, recon run and M5 halftrack (not M3 Halftrack?) are going to be good, I want something new.

This commander, more than any other post-WFA commanders, feels like the old antiquated sov/ost commanders.

Are you 12 years old and don't get enough allowance money from your parents to spend $8 on new game content?

Also, he won't be able to win with existing commanders.

I wholeheartedly agree with your statement, Relic is way too spoiled with the current COH2 fan. Fixing current stuffs first before making new things. The game takes more than 1 year to introduce public lobby and currently after 2 years it does not even have in-game pause. All that money and COH2 still delivers less than COH1.

Reality check:

If it was a flawed marketing strategy, it wouldn't work, if it wouldn't work, it wouldn't be applied by EVERYONE for the past 5+ years.
Marketing doesn't have to be loved, it have to work and make people buy.

Its irrelevant what people THINK or SAY as long as the statistics of active players and sells are going UP.

No amount of forum feedback will ever work, hell I'm surprised it worked with coh2 after ET and SI docs, but since its back now, it means it works.

The ONLY thing that companies understand is money, therefore if you want to speak up that you don't like something, you need to speak up with your wallet by not opening it, you also need to convince huge enough customer base to do the same, otherwise you'll go unheard.

Yes this is kind of the thing, really good players can win with more sub-par abilities. Take Magic The Gathering, for example, every 3 months a new set of 180-260 cards comes out. Every set, players of the most played competitive format, Standard, bitch and moan about how few of the cards are actually good enough for a competitive deck. You can build okay decks with sub-par cards and really good players can go to certain tournaments and win with them, but on the whole the best cards are played in the best deck for the best chance of winning consistently.

For anyone asking for all 100% of commanders to be competitive... it won't happen. It CAN'T happen, for something to be good, it has to be better than something else. Every 3 months millions of players spend HUNDREDS of dollars to buy boosters for a chance at 1% of the set's good cards (this is due to standard being a "rotating" format so every year cards from 2-3 sets will no longer be legal to play in standard).

Relic isn't forcing you to buy new commanders to keep playing the actual game. For those whining about weak commanders, there will always be those commanders which are better than others. That is how we define GOOD. When talking in regards to players, GOOD players can win with even something like NKVD Tactics. Some commanders you can play to have fun, but be ready to lose or keep playing and increase your skill. None of the commanders actively take away from any faction or handicap it, they all enhance them in some way(some more than others) and this is how I know there is no "worthless" commander.

Jeez if you have ever played COH 1.000, all the tanks in that game basically eat infantry for breakfast (1 shotting almost everything), and your own AT rockets collide with your own tanks resulting in team kills, and the calliope spam is real, and you can have as many Tigers/Pershings as you want (Resulting in a stale META game of Blitzkrieg vs Armor doctrine, on every freaking game)

I talked about basic features like public lobby, in-game pause... COH2 does not even have these stuffs at launch, wtf does Relic think, even the old Starcraft got these features. And that's not even counting optimization problems. vCOH balance might not be ok at launch but the game ran way more stable than COH2. (I factored in PC's power too. vCOH is very PC-friendly, COH2 runs like a pig).

NKVD united, power to Defense Commander, grab Storm Doctrine today. Seriously, I would pay top dollar to see anybody pull off with these commanders in tournaments.
