An idea for the M20

The M20 is very versatile but there is one glaring omission from USF and OKW vanilla armies: a garrisonable vehicle. I propose that as long as the player hasn't upgraded the side skirts, the M20 can garrison one infantry unit. Perhaps this would require an upgrade of its own as a binary choice between that and skirts or maybe remove the mine-laying ability if you upgrade for garrison. Too OP?

USF does have a doctrinal vehicle (Jeep), its locked behind a paywall.

But I agree, we could do with a doctrinal vehicle like that, but M20 is probably the wrong way to do it. Maybe M15 without AA cannon?

They have that, it's called the M3 Half-Track and it's already in-game. Relic just needs to make it not suck so bad for no reason, and make a non-doctrinal option available.

I just had the idea that the skirts could replaced with an M8 Upgrade, that didn't stink. :3

Or perhaps make it an upgrade for the AA halftrack? The way I see it, you could have 2 choices. For munitions you could turn it into the transport M3 that reinforces or a self propelled anti-tank gun.

IMO the M20s job isn't to transport.

An alternative camouflage upgrade would be nice for like 50 munis.

I actually got inspired by one of the M20 bulletins that explicitly says it was occasionally used as a transport.

Just looked it up and your right; I was thinking of the Greyhound.

Solid idea that goes with the USF doctrine very well, I agree OP.

Won't happen because it requires new animations, modelling etc. Changes that are beyond stat swapping in the code lines are most unlikely to happen otherwise they would've happen already long time ago.

I see your point, but I don't think being able to carry a unit in it would require any new animations or modeling. Just put a guy in like the 251 HT.

You mean code this this

in M20 module

var garrison = require('./../vehicles')

function garrisonable = new garrison:garrison

Making it a transport would be simple, any modder could do it. The reason why is because you wouldn't see the transported squad; only the MG gunner is visible and everyone else is tucked away inside. If you can see the transported squad then you need to modify the .max file and do some work in the object editor, which are things a modder can't do right now, but not difficult for Relic.

But it would stretch credibility to use it as a transport with how vehicle crews currently work.

An actual M20 could hold about 4 people, including crew.
USF Vehicle Crews are 4 people.
No more room left. :)

The bulletins say a lot of things that aren't represented in-game, they're hardly a source of relevant information.

I would settle for the WC51 being non-doctrinal in the HQ :foreveralone:
