Swap T-34/76 with 85?

Should the Soviets get stock T-34/85s in T4?

I don't know if there's anything actually wrong with the unit's performance, but getting an 80 fuel tank at the end of your teching just isn't fun and the T-34/76 also is not thematically appropriate. Yes, balance > history, I agree, but generally this game has a loosely historical flavor, and soviets using T-34/76s stock over the 85 version clashes with this flavor. I don't know when exactly MP takes place, but if the Germans have hordes of Panthers, STG-44s, and Shrecks, the T-34/85 would make more sense.

T-34/76 could get added to the doctrines that currently use T-34/85 and maybe get a recon mode as a small buff to represent elite armor groups having better scouting. Or it could just get moved to T3 to give those doctrines a little more armor flexibility. Or whatever would balance that out. I'm arguing this for reasons of theme and enjoyment, not balance per se, though I would of course only want this change if a way could be found to make it balanced.

USF uses Shermans and Jacksons, not M3 Lees or whatever.

The Germans get P4s as their main tank, not P3s.

Why should Soviets get stuck with T-34/76s? I know the factions are asymmetrical, but "this faction's asymmetry is that it's lame and relies heavily on cheese to win" is not the fun kind of asymmetry.

I feel like this should have been the way they designed the faction to start off with. Same thing with USF sherman 76mm. Seems like relic went out of the way to make allied armor seem week by giving them old tch.

But at this point it would mess up balancing. Id rather just give the t34/76 a few buffs.

Not for 80 fuel

no for maybe 90 fuel. Cheap isn't worth much if they suck.

I don't really think it's a good idea. Shocks + IS-2 + T-34/85 or Guards + ISU-152 and t-34/85s? No. It'd make some doctrines indirectly OP IMO.

I think the 80 fuel cost is good but I wish it didnt come out so late.
Its an alright tank but Its AI scatter could be reduced to put it slightly on par with he p4.

I think that the T-34-76 should be back in T3.
It would give you a choice between having the SU-76 which is better vs armor but dies easier or having the T-34 which is generally more survivable and better at killing infantry.

Of course it would have to have its 80 fuel cost adjusted but hopefully would reduce the SU-76 reliance

If this could be achieved.

Then Panzerwerfer with slight buffs could be put in t3 and Elefant could be moved to T4 with 20% fuel increase!

I kind of like the idea of cheap 76s, fits with the Sov. theme of "Win by numbers" and if you tech to T4 fast enough it can be pretty fun to get a quick armor numbers advantage.

Course if its a 50/50 match or the game drags on they scale like crap and SU-76s are so damn cost effective that T34/76s are very situational at best. They'd be better if they tweaked the Veterancy a bit and swapped out some of the Reload speed with either scatter decrease or penetration increase so that they can, you know, actually deal with Vetted/Heavy Armor somewhat more reliably.

Or Relic can rework the T-34/76 into dual call-in that costonly manpower like the old PE Panther battle group, the idea is to give Soviet one chance to come back or to hammer the final nail in their enemy's coffin. Further more, I think T-34/76 should have better acceleration like M10 so they can crush troop/flank, maybe to encourage argressive use of T-34. Currently, there is zero reason why anyone should buy T-34. SU-85 and Kat can do everything at much lower risk.

I don't think there is soviet upgrade for direct link with Caucasus oil fields to make it possible to afford such combos.

Also combos like this are already present in 3v3 and 4v4, allies are still losing miserably.
