Su-76 no longer needs free barrage?

I think it's quite a nice unit now. It has long range and good pen but has to be microed and is vulnerable to flanks.

I don't think it also needs an AI capability to go along with it. Having the ability to fire HE at long range for free with a unit that can also penetrate every tank in the game seems like too much.

I agree with you. If you want the barrage for the SU-76 either put a muni cost on it or raise the SU-76 cost a little bit.

Before people bring up the ZiS-3 and Munitions Cost, I want to point out that the SU-76 barrage is vastly inferior to the ZiS-3 Barrage.

Edit: Fuck, I'm too late.

Kappa
It may be inferior to the ZIS one but, a TD that gets a free anti-infantry barrage without muni cost... It sounds weird to me

The barrage is still meh, with it being free also acting as pretty much the only significant advantage to it. It just happens to manage to be good in sufficient quantities, like how enough REs can kill a Gren squad. Any problems with the barrage is more of a sign of SU-76 spam being too good on its own while they also have a barrage.

I see no issue with the concept. It's like a reversal of the ZiS's, a AT gun that gets a good AI barrage at a reasonable cost, and the ZiS's is fine, because the ZiS on its own is also fine. SU-76 is a TD with a free meh AI barrage. If spamming ZiSes was far more effective because...they suddenly became old Pak40s or something I dunno, said reasonably-costing good AI barrage would just be another straw along with how good spamming ZiSes are.

The barrage is only moderately effective at close range (unless you get very lucky). Most of the time this means you risk getting shrekt or fausted.

The StuG also has AI and AA with the gunner upgrade.

clearly you havent had the only AT in your defensive line (i.e. pak) decimated by 2 or 3 su76s doing a shoot n scoot with that barrage at 60 range while youre desperately trying to save fuel for that first StuG

Keywords.

...also I'm pretty sure literally everyone would easily lose against anyone else with that kind of fuel disadvantage.

SU 76 doesnt scale into late game like at all. ATGs, AT infantry and all mediums wipe the floor with SU76. Whatever they do with this bad unit is irrelevant for me.
Allow to skip T3.
Double ATG and double sniper into 85s.

So s/he has 3 SU 76s while you have no proper counter. This means you are at a severe fuel disadvantage. Maybe the other player is better than you

I never hit anything with the SU-76 barrage unless I have like 3+ of them barraging the same area. Let's let the SU-76 have its day in the sun before we send him back to the shadows eh?

Well then you wouldn't miss it would you?

The barrage is hit-and-miss but it can wipe a squad fairly regularly. Every game I see SU-76s and every game they use barrage a lot.

If you're saying that the barrage is bad then why would removing it send the su-76 back to the shadows???

It's good now because of its TD range and penetration and would be balanced like that. The barrage gives it too many advantages.

I would rather see the SU76 get its penetration reduced to 160/170/180, making it an anti-medium destroyer, not a true tank destroyer. I think that barrage is a cool ability that adds favor to the Soviet lineup, but I think it should also mean that the AT capabilities of the platform suffers (see zis-3).

Su-76 is fine. No need to weaken it's AI capabilities. :foreveralone:

Touche! I don't think it's terrible and it gives the unit some nice flavor. Might be a little bit too cost effective, but it's not on M5 levels of stupidity.

The way I see it, while Axis have heavy tanks, Allies have superior artillery. Let them have the free barrage. It's a defining role of the su-76 and it's already on a deathly long cooldown.

Jagdtiger.

Also, SU-76 is not and never was a pure TD, ever.

Its a FIELD GUN on trucks, its purpose and use was BOTH light artillery and AT support, hence the reflection of it in game.

You all are bitching about a unit that was extinct forever, suddenly came back and you have no clue on how to fight it.

Adapt, learn to play, PaKs are not rooted in place.

Have any of you people actually done the math on Soviet vs Ostheer tech?

Even when you 0 fuel advantage over an Ostheer player, which is hard to imagine considering how super effective M5 quad rushes are, you can still get out a quad and 2 SU76s before a P4 hits the field.
