They DO fire on the move, its just that activating the ability halts the tank, meaning you have to re-command it to move.

Yeah that's what I meant. Fire on the move - fire the smoke while moving instead of halting. I guess since they never changed it it's an example of asymmetric balance. But the range isn't so great, so I rarely use it - you can't cover an assault with it all that well in my opinion. If the range was slightly greater I could live with the halt.

Sherman smoke requires shift clicking and hotkeys to be used to its full effect.

First fix it, then make it more dynamic.

it's a bug. peter said it was supposed to and was surprised when it turned out it did not in a stream. hasn't been fixed of course. i'm not sure it's fixable though as it's a point target ability and i don't know of one that doesn't interrupt everything else.

One idea I had was that the mortar team actually shows its field of fire, much like an MG team. The constant need to re-position because the angle isn't quite right really slows this unit down in a way that dulls its effectiveness.

Very +1.

I do like the idea of smoke barrage being more useful, but i fear that it can be easily made into a nobrainer ezy assault tool for soviets and americans in team games. Closing the gap easily and smoking mg's for free could be a game balance breaker.

I'd be happy if they would just fix the damn mortar bugs. Slow smoke is better than having barrages bug out half the time and not firing at all.
