So should we install 10 or not? its going to be free for a month or so?

Ahahaha. After reading the whole thread this just made me laugh - this really reflects how well this thread answered the original question.

The part where you have to always update is very bullshit, no one can stop you from just corrupting the hell out the windows update function
and also you can just put your firewall to block it from checking and downloading

True you can do that, but the question is why would you want to?

Well I don't like for instance to get updates so often so what i do with windows 8.1 that i have right now is to simply stop the windows updater and enable it once every 2-3 weeks and download updates in a bulk, then you just stop again.

Microsoft patches once per month and there's no reason ever to skip a security update. Unless you're dumb.

Just wait and upgrade to 10 next year. No point in getting windows 10 until after they release their server equivalent. It's just a paid alpha for their server build and it'll be full of bugs/holes.

Or do yourself a favor and don't use windows because it's garbage.

Not true at all

The fact that it is the most used OS makes it automatically not garbage

Generally speaking Microsoft patches once per month:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patch_Tuesday

Just because it is the most widely used doesn't mean it's not bad. Compared to iOS and Linux distros it's pretttty bad.

Even if it says so in the wiki it just does not happen like that anymore, they keep pumping security updates

True but it is decent/good in most areas in computing, where the others are good at something and bad at others

Want more links? I work in health care IT. We are legally bound to have all important security updates pushed to our production network within a week of their release. I'm quite aware of how often Microsoft releases security updates. I only gave the wiki link cuz I'm on my phone and didn't feel like putting in that much effort.

Plus you should always install every security update asap. There's just no reason not to.

Windows is good for gaming, only because other OS lack the support from the gaming industry and the office suite. Other than that windows is pretty meh. OS X just handles so many things so much better for the average user. And I can't stand freaking retarded command prompt after using the Linux command shell.

Anyways, getting a new version of windows before it has been out for about a year is just asking for trouble, simple as that.

I did read somewhere that there was some compatibility issues with NVidia drivers and Win 10 - any sign of those? Other than the FPS drop.

Dunno, just did a clean install of Win8.1 (nothing else installed) and upgrade into Windows 10. Almost everything is alright atm.

No idea, installed the latest driver, claimed by Nvidia Windows 10 is supported.
