Is the King Tiger still worth 260 fuel?

Hey, I tried to make some games with the KT, but it´s hard to get.

In fact it has always been hard to get. Costing officially 260 fuel - but practically 390 fuel (2/3 income) + all three tech buildings up, it doesn´t seem worth to get. But it now has the same frontal-armor value as an IS-2. Not even the stronger gun can justify this.

At the end of the day, with all the tech involved, the lowered fuel income and the high price, it costs as much as two IS-2s. And it does get the same armor. I think it´s dull to do this as historically (omg did he say history) it had more armor.

If it has to be tuned down, because Allied players are too lazy to flank - I think at least a price decrease would be adequate. You barely see it.

tl;dr - Problem: Same armor as IS-2, yet almost twice as expensive fuel-wise for the first unit.

Why flank? No side armor. Ho, you mean go behind it, under the fire from AT support?

And we can't really speak about tech cost for KT as you need at elst 2/3 truck to do your game. In the end, you will build all 3 trucks in most of your game, not to get the KT but because you need them. You have to see the KT as a bonus.

Really the biggest issue is that the lower armor combined with the Jackson buff means that you need to be very very conservative with it because of it's slow speed.

Every Soviet team mate is using market target commanders now so it kind of compounds the problem, It makes more sense just to get a Jadgtiger or spend the fuel on more diverse tanks. The Command Panther and Regular Panther are much faster and much easier to keep alive.

The KT now is a great defensive tank, for assaults? Not so much.

What players seem to forget is that this unit should not be overpowered. It is still an standard Tier Unit, completely different to the other factions, where you have to pick a commander to get a Super heavy Tank. OKW gets elite infantry and Super heavy tanks without choosing a commander, which gives them a lot of room to choose whatever. Fx the defense commander.
1 player with a pak 43, a King tiger and an army of Obers?
I think this forces OKW to think things over again. People had it way too easy before, now u have to think with each of the factions :)

It wasn't particularly OP before, It can't be spammed because of it's very high cost and the very large amount of population cap it takes up. Losing basically means it's GG for the OKW player when that happens due to the huge investment he has lost.

It should have been changed when all the other call in heavies were reworked, all the heavies should be tied to teching like it is.

That actually sounds like a really great idea. Like every faction gets a super heavy when they build all buildings. But then Ostheer should pay for an extra upgrade or something to get it. Like a t-5 upgrade!

Well that's how it worked in DoW2: Retribution. Every faction had a late game super unit.

Really for call in's they just need to be restricted to you fully teching. Which would increase the price and encourage people to make different tanks. KT's before the patch weren't by any standard "common", since you needed to wait quite a long time to get the fuel for one and OKW does need vehicle support especially versus Soviets.

I wouldn't mind a cost decrease to 230 fuel. Or maybe just making the armor 400 instead of 375.

375 Axis armor is still superior to 375 Allied armor as Axis AT weapons generally have more penetration.

The new Jackson has a fairly high chance to penetrate it, and mark target is very in right now thanks to the PTRS buff on the guards commanders.

The KT is a lot slower than the IS2 so getting out of sticky situations and using it in assaults it a lot harder. A speed increase would make the lower armor a bit less of a pain.

Instantly claiming fanboyism on someone with another opinion. Get out of the thread if you dont want to discuss properly. The point is that for multiple cost you invest all your fuel into one unit that now has the armor of an IS-2. Which with call in meta and no tech is way easier to get.

God forbid a German tank gets frontal armor and you got to flank.

375 Axis armor is still superior to 375 Allied armor as Axis AT weapons generally have more penetration.


Not really, the only thing better right now is the Pak40 with 10 more pen than the ZiS, and the Jackson blows the other medium TD's out of the water. The super heavy TD's are a lot more attractive now tho.

The Jackson is much better V the KT than the JPIV versus the IS2.

i can't even begin to describe how stupid this comment is


The IS2 is a lot harder to flank than the KT, the speed and acceleration on the IS is much higher.
