Retreating AT guns

Currently the raketenwerfer is the only AT gun equivalent with the ability to retreat. This advantage was addressed sort of in a recent patch by giving them suppression, but the protection it has on being able to escape allows it be more mobile and aggressive simply because it has a fallback. The best way to deal with the repetition of late game call-in armor battles is by indirectly giving AT guns more mobility in having that same escape. Currently all the other AT guns act more as "traps" if the enemy happens to push too far; imo they need to be given more of a role

ATs and MGs need support and sighters. This is clearly mentioned in the tutorial tips, available on the game menu.

When I face Rakatenwerfers with tanks and they try to retreat, they usually get kill/decrewed. So I don't really see that as an advantage.

AT Guns are risky investments, particularly for Ostheer, because they can very well end up in your enemies' hands. Therefore you should play with that in mind. No retreat mechanism is necessary for Pak40s, ZiS-3s, or 57mms if they are played correctly.

You are kinda saying ATs are easily flank-able [They should be] and they should be more mobile and independent, requiring less attention.

I'm not saying that AT guns are not effective with their current design if you play them properly. I'm saying that giving them more mobility will change the meta for a more fluid playstyle that is not as focused on late game armor battles, which, is what is annoying to most people about the game right now.

And yes raketenwerfers die on retreat a lot from tanks but that's also true of any infantry squad. More realistically, 57mm's and Zis 3's would be retreating from snipers, artillery or fallschims that can spawn behind them. It's too easy to decrew them (from personal experience of playing against them) and they only really have longevity with passive play. Which is exactly the problem that it's a passive unit. It should be more independent by having an escape but also being just as flankable as it currently is, i.e. an MG. Basically make micro more necessary and give it more utility

You realise the Raketenwerfer is the weakest overall AT Gun right?

Pack howitzer first pls, but it would be interesting if they did give them a retreat function, they would still be pretty slow id imagine

Raketenwerfer is the weakest, least accurate and most fragile AT unit. It is even terrible against early game vehicles (because of low accuracy and small target size of those vehicles). It also has less range. You can not compare them to ATGs.

Lol It's fragile.... But all at guns are, the raketenwerfer is just a hair more fragile. But it's also way better vs heavy tanks due to higher pen, which is what the meta is all about atm. I would happily decrew my zis for a raketenwerfer if the game let me.

I thought the Rat also had guaranteed armour penetration, or has that changed recently through patches?

huh?

rak has 200/190/180
pak has 210/200/190
zis has 200/190/180 (i was wrong, zis and rak have the same pen)
57 has 140/125/115

the first three are all "average" and the 57 has shit for base stats but really good vet abilities and is 1 of 2 US hard options.
