Hey, this vote's to see what most people think spam is. I've seen players accuse other players of spam because they had 3 of one unit type. To me spam is at least 5 at the same time but I see a lot of people get annoyed by 3/4 conscripts or Volks. 2 snipers to me is also not spam, it's a sniper strat.

It seems the word spam has been spammed and lost all meaning. I just saw a thread with the phrase "Tiger spam"... I mean, it's impossible to get > 4 Tigers (unless 4+ 1 decrewed)


So here's the vote. What number constitutes spam? I think it's important to have a common understanding of the word for forum discussions. If someone says "he spammed Pumas! What should I do?" and in reality there were only 3 in the whole game and only ever 2 at once, it becomes difficult to answer his question. The number matters, so what is the spam number? Spamber...

I believe that it depends on what unit is being talked about. 4 riflemen is not spam. 4 Sturmpios at the start or 4 snipers is spam, for example.

1) Both.

2) That is really a faction dependent, you can't really call USF rifle a "spam" as they have no other choice. And 4-5 seem to be general thought, but there are people who are strongly convinced that 2 is a spam.

Voted a lot at once, and 4. As it has been said, it however depends on the unit in question. Some tanks are not spammable in huge numbers, i would say 3 consecutive is a spam. And about infantry, definitely 4+ consecutively.

4 for support non-infantry weapons (maxims, MG-42s etc), 5 for infantry.

1) Depends, usually I would say though "at once"
2) Depends on the unit type really. Unit types that usually shouldn't be built in big numbers but often are like Machine Guns may already start with 3, but generalist infantry only after like 5 squads or so. To average it out I vote "4" in this poll.

Unit type needs to be considered as Boc120, Gokkel and MrcoR said and faction type too as Katitof pointed out.


4 Sturmpioneers? Could it... Could it work? :D

depends on the unit. I think manpower is a better measurement. For example I'd say 1000+ manpower invested in any unit is spam.

Although I guess by that logic two king tigers is spam.

manpower spent on resource caches should count toward the number for RE spam. Or maybe that's just cache spam.

2 units is spam, and it doesn't need to be at the same time.

Mainly it is overcoming the unit's weakness(es) by simply making more of that unit. So that the weakness(es) are still stronger than what is meant to exploit them. For example, a rifleman gets suppressed by an MG. But if the player keeps building riflemen, you can say that the MG got spammed when it fails to stop them. It can be argued that this is how it should happen, and personally I think it is a tactic that should not be seen as poor sportsmanship. If spam is the best option, then, since it's a strategy game, it should be done. It's up to the game mechanics to encourage different types of gameplay, for example making combined arms more valuable than just many arms.

I always always always considered it 3 or more. 2 is way too common (2scouts, 2 guardsmen, 2 heretics etc) and hardly spamming.

Either way though, spam has its weaknesses. If I only build unit A, then I'm vulnerable to Unit B. If I get three Ostwinds I'm technically spamming, but a t-34 or a Sherman will mop the floor with them.

Depends of the units, price, time, etc.

Conscripts/Grens/Rifles/Volks: 5 is spam
Sniper: 3 alive = spam
Elite infantry: 3
Same support weapons: 3 at the same time

-5 or above of baseline infantry like rifleman, grens.
-3 (maybe) or above 'top tier' infantry, but that are some huge mp investment, which shouldn't be much of a problem. (Ex:3 paratrooper which is 1140 mp)
-3 or above of same type of support weapon team except AT gun.
-more than 1 sniper for both OST and Sov, more than 2 for US's pathfinder.
