Pershing was never planned. The thing that was cut from armor was the M36 which was switched with the M10 because they thought the the US needed a nondoctinal counter to the kingtiger.

They could use it for an M4A3E2 "Jumbo" if they ever add one, would be a more fitting addition than the M26 and still classify as "Heavy" because it's armoured like a Tiger Tank, even though it was shipped with the standard 75mm Gun, although 76mm conversions were made.
