Check this image out! The shorts were issued to many of the German troops as a new tropical uniform in olive green.

In contrast men were also issued with the famous German grey long coats, much to the men's disbelief at first. Upon arrival they quickly found use for them, with temperatures changing from 50 degrees Celsius daytime, to around 5 degrees C at night.

The PzKpfw Panzer III Ausf G was the most widely used tank by the Afrika Korps. They first arrived in Tripoli in 1941, but due to lack of replacement up to date tanks remained in service and use for most of the campaign. They were still far superior to the British tanks at the time, and incomparable to anything the Italians could muster. Even its relatively small main gun packed enough penetration and range to break the commonwealth in half.

Here is a 250 which was mentioned earlier, this is the Command and Control version used by Rommel, but unfortunately arrived to late to the front to see much usage. Rommel and many of his commanders favored the 222 Scout Car of 251 Halftrack for most of the war as both were outfitted with very advanced and functional radio systems.

Just a little tease ;)

I've got a "Desert Rats" design coming in a few weeks and yes, it features a lot of Aussies ;)

PzKpfw Panzer III Ausf M was at its time in 1942 the most powerfully armed tank of the Afrika Korps with its 5cm long barreled gun and smoke dischargers. It was also equipped with air filters built in.

Kfz 15 Horch Staff Car was widely used as transport. It along with many other vehicles and tanks was delivered to Tripoli in the standard German field grey, something which was quickly changed.

This.

The desert is an incredibly inhospitable place.

Imagine the heat inside a tank in daytime...

Indeed, most of the day troops tried to sleep best they could because officers worked them through the night laying mines, patrolling, repairing vehicles, moving supplies, digging fortifications etc.

Problem was not just sleeping in 40 - 50 degrees C either, there was a constant lack of fresh water, especially when wells were poisoned (considered bad sportmanship on both sides, but still happened). They also had to deal with flies, sand getting everywhere and of course serious sun burns.

And being in a tank was unbearable. No air conditioning! These blokes are casually frying an egg on their tank for a propaganda movie!

So they'd basically be OKW with the occasional Italian unit thrown in? They don't seem different enough to what the Axis already have unless I'm missing something.

You are not the only one. There are lots of volks folks out there looking forward to fighting in Afrika. That would be soooo cool hot!

Or Italians, I'd also love Italians, Japanese fit the timeline but not the place, and without Marines/Aussies in the game it would be strange seeing Japanese fight alongside OKW/Wehr vs KVs, IS-2s, Churchills and Pershings even more.
