FG42 Sound

Let's talk about the new FG42 sound.

First a little bit about the rifle itself. It fires the 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge, which is also used in the Kar98 or MG42 for example. It's a big bullet and it makes a big bang.

While it had a sophisticated muzzle break and a unique recoil dampening spring in the stock, it's not ideal for sustained fire. The gun is not heavy enough to control the recoil of the powerful cartridge. Meanwhile, Obersoldaten are firing their MG34 deadly accurate at long distanges on the run.

That said, the FG42 ingame sounds quite weak and muffled, with a continuous high rate of fire - something you would expect from a low caliber SMG.

This honestly bugs me more than i like to admit, to the point where i can't enjoy the Fallschirmjäger unit to the fullest. The rest of the weapon audio sounds like a wet dream (they even beefed up the 5cm sound of the Puma) albeit the MG34 is maybe also more on the wimpy side, but still.

So, do you like the new FG42 sound?

Some old folks may remember the previous FG42 sound from vCoH, which sounded more bassy, slower and in my opinion more representative. Shit, now i sound almost like HS King.

I remember seeing FG 42 for the first time in Day of Defeat, its an half life 1 WWII mod, and in its description it said that the FG 42 was loudest weapon carried by soldiers in WWII,

so you might be right about the sound thingy

Does anyone have a comparison? I honestly didn't even notice it changed.

Funny how much the BARs sound like the old FG42s. The new sound is distinctive, so I like it from a gameplay perspective. I don't really care about its resemblance to the real deal, but I can see why it would bug you, Ginnungagap.

I find that almost all the gunshots and explosions in WFA are very lacking compared to Soviets/Wehr and especially compared to CoH. Many of the weapon sounds are lack the "ooomph"... listen to the Puma firing sound or even the Sherman, they sound like pathetic pop guns.

Yeah, I enjoyed the old FG42 more. But even the .50 sounds very weak, there seems to be no punch when it fires. Maybe the sound files are set too low? Most of these sound "problems" came after WFA.

Call of Duty WaW had a pretty decent sound for the FG42. Powerful with the high RoF accentuated.

MG42 sounds good but could use more bass. Worst sounding is the kar98 it sounds so weak and boring. I had sound modded vcoh and its so much more fun using bolt action squads when they sound powerful (like they were).

FG42 sound from COH 1 was music to my ears. So sweet!

The new sound is just .... meh. They no longer sound scary for the enemy.

Please bring back the COH 1 sound for FG42! It was perfect.

The CoH1 FG42 sound was great, CoH2... not so much.

Not to mention Falls were way more deadly in CoH1 too :D At vet 3 (all offensive) they would tear through an entire riflemen squad in like 5 seconds

+1 bring back the old FG42 sound.

Also make Falls more durable. They're complete crap and melt now. As demonstated on pqumeish's recent stream.

Just make their camo comes at vet 0 and everything will be fine, makes them to be something like vCOH Stormtrooper from Blitz specializes in ambush. These guys should be cloaked and moving at slow speed.

COH2 logic: Pak. Zis, 40-tons Jadgpanzer and Luchs can go invisible in the middle of the road while Falls, sniper, JLI, Pathfinders all of them are amubush unit can't hide themselves near the forest because there's no cover there (Minsk Pocket).
