Nononono where did this SS crap come from? Stop what you are doing and continue complaining about WFA NDA etc.

Relic may be switching up things so even the Alpha testers wont be sure what will be released.

What, those poor, misunderstood Nazis whose contribution to enslaving a continent and enacting genocide don't get enough recognition?

Re-read your post, man. It's kinda disturbing. I've no problem with historical accuracy whatsoever and, yeah, not having that because we don't want to upset Ze Germanz seems silly. But 'acknowledging the Waffen SS.' Orly?

I'm waiting for some SS fanboys, of whom there appear to be a depressing number amongst Generation Y gamers, to come and proclaim that the Waffen SS was merely a professional fighting force and nothing to do with those nasty Allgemeine creeps. LOL. Bring it on.

Being a pragmatist i condemn any soldier who has committed war crimes and commend any soldier who hasnt and simply fought what he believed was right cause. Yeah sure its easy now to condemn national socialist rhetoric but back then people didnt know any better.

And for the record i fucking hate the nazi rhetoric.

Obersoldaten and Panzergrenadiers. Based mostly on the fact that both are wearing Waffen-SS camouflage.

Ahh, I suppose the SS CAN be considered SS but the only problem is that they aren't wearing SS insignia. I assume you've seen the OKW live stream, yes? Did you notice that the Obersoldaten has the Waffen SS ranks insignia except for the lightning bolts? The Panzer Grenadiers have the classic iron bars or w/e they're called for collar badges, so this only means that:

A)Relic is moving away from political correctness which is nothing but good news I think. This is a game that bases itself on historical events/factions/units, and thus it should show all factions and units from their historical perspective.

B)Relic haven't done their research.

That's just my opinion though, unlike a lot of people, i'm not offended easily and thus I absolutely don't mind if Relic includes SS units even if they don't include the lightning bolt collar badges they're famous for.

?? I'm just stating my opinion even though i'm drinking. I'm confident that i'm not breaking any rules here so I don't see the problem. People in other countries might be offended by certain symbols(Soviet and Waffen SS symbols) but i'm not and I see absolutely no reason why I have to suffer with the Germans. At the very least Relic could enable modding when WFA releases so a modder could make historically authentic uniforms for people to use. Relic doesn't need to attract all of the backlash while modders can actually make authentic uniforms that wouldn't affect everyone.

Stop before you get this bloody thread locked.

This is what happened last time.

And again, SS symbols are banned in many parts of Europe. If Relic were to add them, CoH2 would be a banned game. Understand that.

I see, I guess I'll just leave it at that the rest of us shouldn't suffer because the Germans have to, and that i'm glad Relic is moving away from political correctness. It would be better if one of the staff members can clarify regarding the discussion of the Waffen SS in CoH, since it's pretty obvious that at the very least the Obersoldaten are SS troops, and thus clarifications would be welcome if we can discuss whether they should be in-game or not.

Perhaps the Germans dont want to anyways? Why would anyone want to remember the ugly past? This is not debatable, and it sure aint safe. Bad intentions are bad, and there is a reason why this is never discussed. YOU JUST DONT.

It looks like they renamed the COH2 alpha to press. Looks like they will have a press release for the last week before release.

I hope we get more info before the 24th or if we're lucky, a closed beta for those of us who pre ordered.

EDIT: I imagine the balance is already hammered out for the most part due to the Alhpa, while beta testing from what I know is basically just finding bugs and whatnot.

EDIT: @Beltfed

. Unlike a lot of people, I can distinguish between the combat arm of the SS and the non-combat arm, and it's why I said that Relic is moving in a positive direction, since the combat arm of the SS did indeed play a major role in both the Eastern and Western Front, and I only hope that after a year or so games can actually portray historical factions as they were in real life.

Cool

I look foward to a TOW mission set in Oradour sur Glane.

Derailing hard...

The discussed symbols are only banned in Germany and Austria I think.

I assume the motivation behind Relic's censorship is simply to avoid possible scandals. Take into account how hard Russians were pissing themselves about the campaign of Coh2.

As soon mods are enabled history enthusiasts will surely have viable options to play with increased historical authenticity.

AchtArcher pretty much has the idea. It's ridiculous that we have to suffer censorship just because the Germans have to, so here's hoping Relic releases mod tools(So people can create historically authentic uniforms) when WFA expansion releases, though the units they showed off during the OKW stream looked like actual German WW2 infantry, and not units that looked like the modern German Army.

Who said it's censorship? Maybe Relic just doesn't want Nazis in their game?

Everything it's so conjectural. The fact is not enough time past to heal the wounds from WWII. I could bet all my money that in 200-300 years (if there will be any games), nobody will have a problem with former symbols of nations or armies. Nobody denies the Roman Aquila anymore :p.
I have to admit that I would like to see some historical accuracy related to units, flags, etc, this generally contribute to the charm and atmosphere of a game. I remember one Relic video where they recorded vehicle sounds from authentic WW2 vehicles to implement them in the game. That was superbe.
In the meanwhile, we should not forget that in the majority of European countries and not only, SS signs are forbiden being considered offending. More than this there are many people being offended by such signs or runes. And this is not ok, we should enjoy our freedom and rights but not by violating other people freedom or rights. More than this, a law it's a law and must be respected as it is in force or untill will be replaced by another. Period.
