MG42 over performing

Not really sure what's supposed to be done about this, since this is a direct parrel with history. But for the sake of balance a slight reduction in the MG's firing arc or suppression might would make fighting Ost players a little less punishing during the early and mid game.

Hell it comes with an inbuilt delay when its post set up or when it targets infantry, about a second or two of aiming at something if it isn't dead center.
All MGs must, uh, rotate on target before they can shoot. This is not a MG42-only thing.
Anyway I disagree with both of you

MG42 is great, but quite clunky to use.
Which is the most accurate way to portray HMGs. In coh3 I hope they all behave like that
I know realism is almost meaningless, but the fact that the .50 cal packs up instantly is still hilarious imo

Well, that is one way to call out missing traverse animation.

I don't like this kind of make-or-break design, but in the name of asymmetric balance we have to accept its performance. Other popular RTS games fare dramatically worse in this matter.
When the Soviets manage to steal it, that is true terror, a 6-man MG42 It's a high risk selection to be honest.

Mg42 is by far the shittiest mg, espescially without vet, garbo aim time, inconsistent firing patterns. Hell it comes with an inbuilt delay when its post set up or when it targets infantry, about a second or two of aiming at something if it isn't dead center.
haha funny

Mg42 is by far the shittiest mg,
laughs in maxim and 4 second suppression time

It's a key unit in the early game for the Wehrmacht much like the T-70 and ZiS spam in the mid-game for the Red Army.
id rather have the crutch units like the T-70 nerfed though.... perhaps the MG42 can be nerfed a bit and something else can be buffed?

No, grens won't get 5 men

Pack up time, # of men, and its ability to hold a sector are good, don't forget this MG is in t0 and really doesn't cost that much and its super cost efficient.
A 3 squad push from a 120* push means if he attacks the in the middle no matter the distance the AOE suppression will get you. If thats the intended effects than cost or timing should be adjusted to allow for better early options, as it stands the unit comes out both too early and for a low price.
Its the only MG in the game in my opinion that does its job, either buff the others or reduce mg42 AOE to make it so its can't hold an entire flank unsupported.

Maybe move HMG42 into a commander? Or replace OKW's HMG34 with HMG42 because it arrived way later.
But that are only some thoughts... nerfing HMG42 will make it more or less a HMG34.

but that would bring new problems... maybe a weak pin-ability for Grenadiers with LMG-42 upgrade?
that sounds extremely dangerous...
mg34 suppression is a bit too much... id change to around vickers level imo... in turn we can give something else like pgren smoke or smth similar...

The USF M2 .50 cal and the doctrinal Soviet DshK.

It's just funny that there are two other MGs in the game that aren't nearly as good but cost significantly more and are harder to get.
The USF M2 .50 cal and the doctrinal Soviet DshK.
You and I disagree on the strength of these mgs.
