In my experience unless you are extremely aggressive this unit rarely comes on time. I find that it comes a bit to late for a unit that is not really fantastic without huge MU spending.

I suggest that it becomes a 0 CP unit that is locked behind one building upgrade (the upgrade that you get AFTER unlocking the building) or LT + CPT. This way it would come around the same time as other USF light vehicles which IMO are around the same power level.

EDIT: to clarify I think it should unlock whether you go LT or CPT, when you get the tech that lets you research major

I would be fine with that and I think it would encourage people to go Captain more in 1v1 at least. Thing I don't like about the Greyhound is that it comes out late but then you can call multiple in instantly if you have the fuel banked up by 4 CP. Which you can often have around 100-120. 2 Greyhounds showing up immediately at around 8-10 minutes can be devastating if you aren't prepared well enough. Making it have a build timer would probably allow the first to come out earlier but then slightly delay the 2nd one which would be a good compromise imo.

I would rather see this unit a "refit" option for replacing the m20 in mechanized doctrine.

Agree, it's too late to be effective. What's the point of a Greyhound at the same time as a Stuart or Flak HT?

You could say it's an AI specialist and could pair well with a Stuart, but the canister ability is severely underpowered, so along with needing an MG upgrade it's a munitions sink just to get any AI power out of it (probably it's like this because CoH1's Stuart cannister shot was so massively OP :D).

The cannister shot, when the unit got released, was the wipe maschine 9000. Click and destroy. Prepare your anus. There is a reason why it got toned down.

Ah okay, heh, I must have missed that period.

I do remember once taking out 4~6 squads of PE once, in one shot, with the British Stuart, lol.

Surely we can find a middle ground 😂

Use rcon all the time probably my favirote USF commander and I NEVER get greyhound. Its only effective using money shots and can never afford to waste munitions with that commander because for one it cost munitions for airborne and pake howie which is a MUST imo for that commander. Plus upgrading rifles pathfinders with bars and another 120 to upgrade the airborne squad. Plus needing munitions for the late game cluster bomb drops.

Greyhound just sucks it needs way better AI with out munitions shots and comes far too late.

The recon commander is a big munition sink. Paratroopers are behind a big munition cost, greyhound MG + general high munition cost of USF. If greyhound should exist, it should probably be more aimed at AT power rather than AI. If you go lieutenant, you get MG and stuart and if you go captain you get AAHT (Better AI than greyhound) and pak (again a must have). It just doesn't fit anywhere.

As an AT option I feel like the M8 Greyhound would be even more niche since it would be directly competing with the Stuart...

Which wouldn't be necessarily a problem because of split teching. A sooner hitting but squishier alternative to the Stuart would be a neat niche.

After TDs are out, M8 > Sherman74. Cheaper to call, same munition price for the MG upgrade, faster and better to guard flank vs infantry and also reach vet3 faster.

Overall I think it is the perfect unit to counter elite infantry. Only Falls were giving problem with their faust back then but now that the get to go to keep Pzg/falls/ober at distance and bleed your opponent.

You need not go lieutenant. Captain/Lieu are options. So you have an AT niche with Captain (Besides the AT gun which needs constant repositioning)

What about making it toggle ammo like the sherman. AI could be the explosive shot like the aaht with no suppression for consistent damage. AT could do stuart level damage with no AOE to bull light vehicles but get beat back by the PUMA

As absurd as the ability used to be, it's still possible the nerf went too far. It's basically useless now, so they might as well of just removed the ability

Remove it and replace it with something else if there's no way to balance that type of ability

They could just like... Give it AOE damage. Like " in this area I'd deals 40 damage" no drop off or whatever. Just flat damage. Low enough to not wipe but high enough to fuck up a blob with support.

I play USF by far the most, I have used the Greyhound once, maybe twice. It doesn't seem to make sense as a unit. It's no match for a Puma or Luchs. It doesn't seem THAT good at AI, certainly not as good as the M15AAHT that can supress and take on some light vehicles. It has smoke (I think) and can drive up to MGs to provide concealment for advancing infantry, but so does the M20 and it's way cheaper.
