Someone has made the call based on financials to pull all resources away from COH2 and put them into their moneyshot, AOE4.
I wouldn't put it past Relic to just abandon COH2 now even though the community is doing almost everything for them now.
Just remember, COH1 is still stuck on the broken mess that is 1.71.

Is someone of the balance team allowed (assuming they even know) to talk about if or how CoH2 updates will be delivered from now onwards?
I think we can be happy that although CoH2 balance is not perfect, at least all factions are more or less playable with good fun. Thanks to the balance team and to Andy for that.

This certainly does not bode well.

Maybe this is a sign of restructuring and the start of a fresh CoH2 team? Relic know the game still makes money so don't abandoned us.
Look at the player counts on steam, SEGA know CoH2 community sticks around unlike warhammer titles (even more recent total war numbers are a fraction of CoH). And a bigger playerbase means more money.
Not just in numbers player wise, but CoH regularly blows TW out the water on twitch numbers every time a major tourney gets released (credit to AE and stormless for that). That's great brand advertising for SEGA. This theory of continued support seems to be backed up by Andy's support of the tourney patch. Relic want competitive coh to continue.

I may have been a little harsh, comparing COH1 1.71 to the current state is unfair.
Right now, the game is actually balanced extremely well and it wouldn't be the end of the world if we never got another patch.
I still just can't fathom the intelligence of a company that decides to never change the decimal place of one unit which basically left the game unplayable. Consider how many sales of COH1 which have undoubtedly occurred over that time and it makes Relic look lazy and incompetent.

Perhaps this explains why Andy got the promotion.

I agree and Sega/Relic will likely use that to market a new CoH game. Whatever that is CoH3 or something else we don't know.
Also, note Relic hired a Microsoft vet (Chris Casanova) involved with CoH/AoE monetization so that properly means subscription/Xbox Game Pass service for future Relic games.
Chris Casanova; former Microsoft and MS owned Mojang Studios (Minecraft)::
Director of Live Operations at Relic Entertainment

At Relic we aspire to make our games and studio feel alive to our players. We do this through building and releasing continually evolving, personal, epic experiences to build deep and lasting relationships with our players. This is a new area for us to embrace so expect to see much more over the coming years.
I am leading and building a team to execute this vision.

what is cynthia doing now?
She is enjoying a most successful career as a product marketing manager for Offworld industries after having spent some time as a senior community manager for Kabam. She is a very successful strong minded woman.

Also, the market for RTS keeps looking worse. To Relic, Iron Harvest might look like a preview of failure for CoH3. I'm also assuming that Relic has been feeling pretty risk averse since DoW3.
AoE2 DE and C&C Remastered have been successful, at least.

C&C Remastered have been successful, at least.
You can fall faster only if you literally jump off a cliff.
I believe Stadia is more successful then C&C remastered at this point.

Just because people bought it and play it for the nostalgia factor, it doesn't mean you suddenly will have concurrent people logging in.

A friend of mine was hyped for it for 6 months straight, when it released he almost came, he haven't played even 1 hour as prehistoric mechanics of the game was too much for him to handle and he literally choked on his nostalgia.
I assume most of players who got it were not all that different.
AoEE at least is still supported and multiplayer component actually succeeded.

Sure, they got their nostalgia money and people my age who were unable to move on with their lives out of childhood got what they wanted, but they have dropped it literally next week.

Because there was an actual active multiplayer playerbase, who still makes new mods/maps, have a competitive scene and the only thing they needed for the re master to succeed was actually releasing a working game (the online) compared to the HD version.
They successfully migrated the voobly/HD players into a single game. C&C had to somehow create new players out of thin air.
