I’m actually shocked that no one else is going for airborne. Your infantry is just so much better especially against Wehrmacht where your conscripts basically beats grens in all situations and guards in cover just shred everything, you can even go T-34-76 spam and still be able to kill heavy armor with ram+ IL-2, you can even have a ppsh squad in the scout car at one cp!

Neh, not new meta, watch Stuve play Soviets in tourney.

He even gets the PPSH Penals in an M3. :megusta:

Yes it is quite good, I think there are a lot of viable strat's with soviets so it comes down to personal preference. It helps out a good deal in that part of the game when cons may usually be weak, but without a late game tank there is a chance you will run out of steam with only 640 hp vehicles. But as many games are decided by 20-25 minutes when that may happen it's not a particularly risky pick.

I think cons seem to beat almost any infantry with vet and an upgrade, so that part isn't super new :megusta:

Nope...

Airborne is an all or nothing strategy. You need to win in the early/mid game. If you don't, then forget having any advanced medium or heavy tanks. At the level of the remaining players, there are going to be few 10 minute wins so most players are going to pick something with an IS2 in it, with a smaller group of people going with a commander with one of the KV series tanks or T34/85's.

Also, ram plus IL-2 isn't reliable enough that people would want to bet a game on it with $10,000 at stake. It's a lot harder to use it successfully against good players than mediocre or bad ones, and everyone still in the tournament is good.

I’d rather pick a commander with a tank. Just as honeynuts said, 640hp endgame tanks aren’t gonna carry you to victory.

As soon as grens get lmgs, svt cons struggle against them.
Also if the enemy is okw and happens to have falls, thats end game for soviets.

Airborne guards are really good and handle everything except falls. That's because they are expensive and come at whooping 380mp. Also thr il2 rocket strafe is all luck. Sometimes it hits the building and nome of the rockets land. And voila you just lost your ramming tank. Compared to il2 bombs this is cheaper but more riskier.


Personally i think there should be an ability to make any building a forward HQ apart from the building which guards and engineers can build.

That is not really true, there is this video on tightropes Utube channel where SVT cons beats grens in pretty much all senarios.

With falls, they can be dealt if you always suppot your infantry push with mgs/tanks.

Clearly you have never seen PPSH troops at max range before Penals absolutely tickle grens. They can even wipe a squad at range 35 in 322 seconds on average. The PPSH is a close range weapon it should not be this strong, its OP at ALL ranges.

Given the buff to mid Accuracy and the higher DPS bonuses of the Penals things are not very simple.

This should be the DPS of a vet 3 PPsh Penal Squad:

Ranges 0/10/15/20/25/30/35
110.85/110.85/51.85/18.07/6.93/1.34/1.34

I would not call them OP at all ranges but they do have decent DPS even close to range 25.
(They close accuracy is above 100%)

As you mention that close range their acc is over 100%, it means that it wouldn't be able to deal more damage over that 100%.
If it was mid/long range it would be less of an issue as you have cover most of the time to take into account.

You are guaranteed to do X damage. You are not doing X + Accuracy bonuses levels of damage.

How many times have you actually tried that? They don't have any body armor which means at close range enemy dps are also equally effective. And have more accuracy. Ppsh Penals get a tough time against sturms and stg volks. Try it out.
