There isn't enough of a skill gap between FestiveLongJohns and I for me to be a good mentor for him. I suggest pairing him with players like Paul or HelpingHans Jesulin or VonIvan etc.

GL mentees and mentors. I remember when I first start playing CoH, I was a mentee, and NuVioN was my mentor. I learned a love for the game that lasts until this day!

Could the threads be "read only" if the mentor/mentee agree? You don't want a peanut gallery, but I'm sure the mistakes some of the mentees are making will apply to a lot of us scrubs. I feel like I could learn a ton from what these guys have to say.

With the growth of Twitch, obsmode and VOIP, I doubt if you will see anything near the amount of written advice that existed in the past. I can only suggest you tune in to the Twitch channels of those Mentors who intend to use that medium . e.g. Jesulin.
There will no be peanut gallery on here. Rest assured.
