While obs mode is a feature that should have been in game since the beginning, if it finally makes it into the game one day, it won't magically solve everything.
I don't believe one second that if it makes it into the game, coh2 esport scene will suddenly grow up, online events will have more watchers or casters, and live events will be created.

Agreed. It would be a nice tool for the casters so that their job is easier, but its not going to make much if any impact on the playerbase. Up until mid 2013 when coh was moved to Steam there were much more people playing that than CoH2, and that was without fancy spectator tools. And I have a pretty strong feeling that live events wouldn't be particularly successful either. Most people (with some exceptions) that play CoH2 have jobs or social lives and either can't afford or don't have the time to take a videogame vacation because no coh2 players do this for a living.

What we need observer mode from Maza.
1 I was given a Ban only because I did retrim of the tournament and thus broadcast lost about 100 spectators from Russia. If I was invited as a Russian commentator in the game (Observer mode), then I wouldn't have to do retrim and expose your channel danger of being suspended. Look how many streams from different countries (Russia, Spain, Italy, Japan, Poland, Germany and others) why the audience should see only one English commentator??? Obviously, you must do Observer mode with a large number of slots for commentators.

2 Observer mode must have a complete set of tools in order to view all the current statistics of the game including: losses on the troops, loss of resource, APM, the current order of upgrades and units, economic indicators (growth of fuel ammunitio, etc.).


3 the Opportunity to view the replay at the same time with other players, that would not sync on two computers (remember that in the beginning of the game they say two commentator: one, two, three - start; ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, everything is good!!!)

4 Commentator should be able to distance the camera very far, for that would show large battles (like in Starcraft 2).

5 Observer mode should be in two versions, the judge and the audience - a judge has the right to write to the players during the game, and the audience there. And to add icons for commentators (whatever icon is different from icons USSR and the Wehrmacht, for example, be done in the form of eyes or microphone)

6 the Ability to set the camera on the player and show how he plays (for example commentator walked away from the computer and the screen did not stand on one place to show how plays one or another player)

7 the Ability to save the Replay for commentator after the game in which he was in Observer mode.

8 Company of heroes 2 will not be entertaining without Observer mode. I see the following Sunday Night Fight live, where there are Judges AmipolizeyFunk and Siberian and spectators Maza (Russian community commentator), CaptanPrice (Poland community commentator), Jesulin (Spain community commentator), Conichiva_Revenge (Japan community commentator) and others.

9 At the conference EGX Rezzed Relic said that Company of Heroes 2 WFA will be more attractive eSports discipline, means Relic must do Observer mode, so that new players are not said, "What kind of game where even Obsrver mode no???"

10 the Opportunity to watch how you play Your friends to watch them and learn to play it depends on the game more powerful friends.

We're with you. Honestly.

With the work we've done behind the scenes (with our server team), we can really tackle these kinds of initiatives. This work probably would have been much harder when we launched COH2 and we probably wouldn't have built a great feature; now it's within our grasp to create something far better and meaningful.

for this outstanding post and most of the other quadrizillion posts over the years (1st read your name on gamereplays in 2004? dosent matter...)

as i am at the very beginnig of casting (noob), i wanted to cast a game with my mate, together, and i am feeling the pain.

i am confident there is going to be a change "soon" :-)

lets just wait another few years, we are going to be too old to play the game ourselves, but casting is going to be great by then^^.

12k people are watching dota2 in frankfurt, I hope one day we can do a live event

120 people at a live event for COH2 would be an achievement. One can dream.

120 would probably be easy to achieve if the place is correctly selected (Germany most likely but not sure where).

I'm thinking the organization and most importantly having the best players come from their respective countries would be much more an issue than getting the public.
